for those that said they'd take the scratch, where would you send the cue ball? wouldn that automatically put the opponent in the driver seat if they're not on any scratches?
i'm not a novice, nor am i an expert. but what's so bad about leaving someone all the way at the other end of the table (assuming that there was no combo that was going to be left)? maybe i missed something but how does that put your opponent in a position of strength?
Move the cueball into the 1 leaving it there, moving the 14 away from the rack. If your opponent plays safe you're in a better position to play a safe. If they take a scratch I feel you are still in a better position to play a safe. For me it is a matter of percentages. I feel better taking the first foul in this position. Leaving the opponent at the other end of the table always leaves the possibility of a dead ball, even if you don't see it.
