When the pool bug bit me I bought an 8 footer. Later on I joined bcapl which played on 7's and then a few months later I joined an in house money league that played on 9's.

Having an 8 ' at home helped me transition from a 7 to 9 every week pretty easily. I believe the size of the 9' intimidates the casual player also.

Here in Germany you are playing league only on 9-footer. So if I have the place for a table, it would be a 9-footer.

I was in a pool halll once, believe it or not, and a couple came in and took the toughest table in the house. They played for about three hours, and they had blast. When they were done, someone (me) told them during casual conversations that they picked the toughest table in the house and that the rest of the tables were much more more forgiving.

Their right response was that they were beginners and sucked either way, and that an easier table would not have mattered. But they were there together having fun on a pool table.

If you're going to get a pool table, get whatever you want for yourself. People will have fun for their own reasons. It sounds like you're forcing them to have fun on your own terms (you'll now have fun on my pool table if and only if I have an 8' soft table). I think you're short changing yourself.

I can give you all sorts of anectodes of friends on my table or at my friends tables. if you really wanted. And can I make simple request for posters? This question deserved answers from people who actually experienced having frienda on their pool table, not theoretical "if I had room for a pool table."

I voted for 8' because that is what I have in my basement. If I had more room I would have a 9' table for sure. 7' tables are ok, but I tend to feel a little cramped on them.

My feelings as well. I watch people, inexperienced players and beginners, at the pool hall playing for fun and honestly they often appear to have a better time than some of the serious players.

As for table size if room size is not an issue, I can't vote because there is no option for a 10' table and I am being completely serious.
