Which Table?

I want to purchase a table to install in my garage. I have a limited budget and because of my location (Montana) buying a quality used table would be difficult. I have been looking at an entry level Olhausen ($2300), a Billiardex ($1600), a United from KGI ($1500) or a DLT for $1800. All but the Olhausen are solid wood with 1 inch slate, K-66 solid rubber rails, leather pockets, Championship cloth and free delivery. The Olhausen is veneered, has a 7/8 inch slate and the price includes setup. I can get setup on the others for $250. Can anyone tell me about the quality of these tables? I believe all but the Olhausen is imported. I appreciate any comments.

which model is the Olhausen, If the Olhausen new, No question - bite the bullet. My second would be billiard Ex, but a far second.
 
Olhausen sheraton

Yes, it is new. It is the Sheraton laminate. Is the Olhausen really that much better than the solid wood imports? Even when the rails, frame and base are MDF?

I went to their website the rails are hardwood. This is the best table on your list. No question about it. Needless to say my dad bought one of these tables when I was 10.
 
sd is correct. the olhausen would definitely be the best from the models you listed. I see way too many of these imports and i can tell you their idea of hardwood and ours are totally different. most of this hardwood i wouldnt build a crate out of!!! This is a problem we try and explain everyday to customers. unfortunately these websites have the wording down to a tee and to be honest some of these tables look great. As all of the guys here will tell you there is a whole lot more to a table then
hardwood ,1inch slate ,leather pockets.There are many grades to all of these components. Buy the best you can it will last a long time! good luck!

I've installed several brands of the imports and without question, the best of the rest is the Spencer Marston distributed by BilliardEx. They are built overseas yes, but under supervision of American Engineers. So are Brunswick tables. The wood going into the S.M. tables IS a very hardwood and they are very well constructed tables with all nut and bolt framework, metal brackets attached with bolts into inserts for cross beams, double long beams and legs. (I think they copied Brunswicks engineering techniques). If I had my druthers I'd go American but, if your budget is a concern, I'd go Spencer Marston before any other. And they play very well to boot! Each to their own I say but, educate thyself!

I will have to second that!!! Have done many of the Spencer Marstons for BilliardEx and have been impressed.

I want to thank you all for the info you guys gave me. If I can swing it, I'll get the Olhausen but if present funds are indicative it will probably be the Spencer Marston. I really appreciate your frank and honest advice based upon your experiences. As long as the table plays well, I will be satisfied no matter where it was made.

Good News

While checking on installation costs, I spoke to the local Brunswick dealer (Larry at Billings Corner Pocket) who had a used Olhausen come in on trade. I was able to purchase it for $1200 including delivery and setup. The table is in great shape and was played little. It is just what I needed for my garage! Thanks to all of you for your insightful comments and taking the time to help this novice out.

IMO, the Olhausen laminate tables are the best deal going for the frugal consumer. Don't be confused....the support system on these tables are hardwood except for the legs and lower apron, and the rails are solid oak. I have the Drake II, which comes standard with the Accu-fast cushions and I am happier than a pig in slop. I played on a friends solid cherry $4,000 Olhausen and didn't notice a difference in play....and I paid $800 for mine (used).
