I think you're getting too caught up in something that isn't worth worrying about. The top players all use different tips, for different reasons. There isn't one particular brand taht everyone likes. More importantly, most top players prefer the tip cut down real low. This gives you a more solid feel to your hit and supposedly doesn't deflect as much. Also, with a low tip, you're not as prone to mushrooming and don't have the feel and hit changing as much, over time.
IMO, I think you should find a tip you like i.e. hard, medium or soft, cut it down so the sidewall is about the thickness of a nickel, shape it to your preference (dime, nickel, quarter, etc) and don't worry about it any more. Just shoot.
