Which Will Be Bigger???

I don't know of any major eight ball events that are presently scheduled. Ask me again when some eight ball tournament dates are announced. Eight ball isn't even on the radar yet.

It depends on how well this thing is marketed. Poker has a big a advantage over Pool. Anybody can win. A dedicated player can play pro within a year, pool requires far more dedication. In Poker you don't have to worry about developing hand eye coordination, and the skills and strategies aren't as complicated as Chess so you don't have to be a genius to be great. Chris Moneymaker showed the world that anyone can be world poker champion, even if John Doe comes out of nowhere to win the world 8 ball championship, he will still have to run racks to do it.

IPT 8 ball hopefully, just hope it doesnt get the over exposure that poker does now. Grant it, it will never be over exposed to us, but when the general public sees it over and over, its going to lose it's "new-ness" to them and they are going to either get bored with it, or grasp it.

Chances are after the first year they are going to get bored with it but it will still be on a lot like poker is now. I just dont want to see celebrity 8 ball on some channel that I hardly ever watch.

i hope to god, that ipt 8-ball tournaments will blow away poker baseball and golf.

lol, you must be on crack if you think 8-ball will ever come anywhere close to baseball and golf, even poker for that matter. Golf tournaments generate millions of dollars each week for charities and each first prize is over a million each week on the pga tour now. Major League Baseball's minimum salary next year is almost $300,000 with several players earnings approaching 20 million per. Do you really think that the IPT will ever come close to that? Get real.

Plus, the only gear you need to buy for poker is, apparently, a pair of sunglasses. Oh, and maybe a hat. :P

Do you mean like showing the same dull match on television over 300 times?

Don't forget the extra roomy wallet to carry the $10,000 entry fee.

I would like pool to be bigger but in reality I know poker will always be bigger. Nothing against poker. Actually, I prefer baseball over both of these;p

I dont think pool will ever be as big as poker. IMO poker is more exciting to watch and play, also if someone wants to play pool, they have to find a table. If someone wants to play poker they can go to one of the hundreds of poker sites in which alot of them sponsor pool events. JMO.

How exciting anything is depends entirely on how it is presented. What pool has going for it is that stuff moves. One thing that Poker does right is that they always do a good job of introducing you to the players, getting to know them a little bit. Without that who cares what so and so gets on the river? For something that may not be as exciting as Boxing or Basketball you need to care about the participants in order to want to stick around. In Golf we all know most of the players because of countless interviews they do over the course (haha) of a 10hr broadcast for the day. I suppose this is where Trudeau's reality pool tv comes in I guess. But one of the problems with the World Pool Masters this year was that the time they alloted at the beginning to Jim Wych and Nick Halling discussing how the match was going to play out, should have been used for pre-match interviews.

I, too, like pool and poker both. The big difference right now is the amount of money behind each discipline. While Kevin Trudeau has big pockets, his poker counterparts (e.g. PARTYPOKER.COM, who is behind the World Poker Tour) are worth literally billions and have real incentive to publicize and promote poker because of the on-line poker revenue - the more people interested in poker, the more they make (on a large scale). The problem both have, in terms of TV coverage, is the lack of real-time action. People like me who stay on top of events in both pool and poker, already know who won before the event gets aired - kinda takes some of the drama out of it. IMO, the live pool and poker I've seen has plenty of production value to suit me (with an irritating exception here and there); I don't want or need all the background junk, interviews and overdone commentary; just show the action live with a couple of people (who know what they're talking about) providing color (like the DCC with Billy, Freddie, Grady and Danny). Give me a choice and I'll take the DCC coverage over ESPN every time. Meandered a little, but I think the IPT will succeed at a slow but consistent pace, which is not a bad thing, and can only make the pool world a better and more profitable place to be IMHO.

After watching the KOH matches I can see how 8-ball in the round robin format with their scoring system can attract an audiance. And instead of just showing one complete match, which most times can be dull and one sided, they will be able to bounce around from match to match.

They will generate interest by seeing which player in a group will advance. And how many games/matches he has to win to stay alive.

And we won't be seeing our favorites go two and out.

But, only time will tell. It is obvious that many people are determined to hate it no matter how well it is produced. Not much positive mental attitude among pool players.

I wonder if there is any chance of the IPT going public?
