Whitten Case Q's

I have a Whitten (63-A) case on order. I've looked at the instructions on their website about installing the spacers, but am wondering whether there are any particular tricks to installation. Also, is there a preference for which way the shafts go in? Thanks.

Use a nice kitchen knife to cut down the spacers. You want the shaft to be slightly above the tube but not so much that it scratches the lid of the case. Also consider how much space is needed for joint protectors and only accommodate for joint protectors if you use them religiously. He gives you rather large spacers so the material you don't use, you can hold onto. If ever the day comes when you need more, you can crazy-glue a slice on. He'll send you a wood rod with the case for retrieving the spacers. HOLD ON TO THIS. You never know when it might be useful again.

As a rule, shafts & butts should always be joint-side up unless the case was designed otherwise.

i would place the shafts tip side up. i've seen people cleaning chalk off their tips before placing in the case by grinding them on the carpet in the pool hall. makes me cringe for the owner. as soon as you put the shaft in tip down, your filling the inside of teh tube with chalk that will never come out again, and will dirty up your shaft forever .

I cringe for the owner too when I see tips ground into the carpet. Solution: clean tip with paper towel; insert joint-side up into case.
