Who actually likes playing with the Measels CB?

Only a few Complaints after the SWITCH

We just added 18 new Pro Cup cue balls to the new Centinials, replacing the blue circle cue ball that came with the originals.

There have been a few negative comments, mostly saying the Pro Cup reacts like it is heavier than the Red and Blue circle.

Some players say they can't get the desired draw or side spin on shots they use to get with the Red Circle. Other players (usually the players that have good strokes) really like the Pro Cup. They like the way it rolls into object balls rather than bounce off them like the Red circle.

Mixed responses but the majority of players didn't provide any feedback. They just play on.

It's not quite the same as when Simonis was introduced or when the rules for 9 ball changed from 'rollout' to BIH or when Jump cues were introduced, but is similar in that this new cue ball is a "change". A change for the better? well I guess we'll see in the future.

I still remember the old nappy cloth and really cheap cue balls and object balls. Maybe we just might be caught up in the 'new and improved' age and just have to wait it out to see what "stays" and what "goes".

Me? I like the Pro Cup cue ball. In our tournament room, we all have to play with the same equipment, the only difference is the skill set we bring to the game, and how much luck the other guy has.

It's bigger and heavier (I measured) than the object balls....

I really must say, when you make a statement like this, you must qualify it. Bigger and heavier than what? New centennial balls? 10 year old centennials? The age, amount of use, and type of balls all will make a difference, hence all the confusion in this area.

I personally feel the measle plays light relative to a new centennial blue circle, but i havent weighed it.

I like the measle ball when someone else is shooting. There are some unique spin changes that are interesting and I wish it was around 50 years ago. It doesn't bother me to use it.

I have a couple of the tv sets at my pool hall and everyone like's them such people as Dennis Hatch and Troy Frank but Rodolfo Luat can't stand the measels ball he said it changes with the humidity.

FWIW The Blue Circle cue ball that comes with a set of Centennials is *supposed* to be accurately matched to the Centennial object balls to the same level of tolerance than as the object balls in the set themselves. (This was according to Steve Tipton responding to a question about the difference in Centennials used in WPBA matches and the Super Pros/Pro Cup cueballs used in many other Pro tournaments.)

Me personally I don't notica any problem getting the requisite draw/spin etc. with a Pro Cup cue ball, but then I'm not a top Pro player so my sesntivity to such things is probably a lot lower.

I cannot really notice the dots on the ball after playing with it for a while. But I do feel from time to time that the cue ball seems to react differently than the regular aramith cue balls. I think may be the set of balls is older so the new measels is heavier?

I can see the benefits of using it on TV so the rest of us can see the spin that pros are using, I think that is a big benefit.

Are the red dots on the measels made of the same material as the rest of the ball? If the red dot makes contacts with the number on an object ball, will it cause any skid?

Thank you.

Richard

Ok, after a couple more times of playing with the Measels CB, and the red or blue circle CB, this is what i have noticed.

When playing 9ball. rarely can i squat my rock on any size table with the red or blue circle CB.

Bring out the Measels CB, and i am squatting Mr Whitey all day long, and its not like i am breaking different or anything.

The red/blue cb also over / under react to english alot. I rarely get any of this with the Measels CB, unless i put some serious english on the CB.

Plus the Measels cb rolls so much better than any other CB's even after having many many games on it without it being cleaned.

And when cleaned, theres no comparison. So after playing again with the Measels CB Weds, I Order'd one to keep either with me or at the pool hall i goto so its there when i wanna play.

Dude, You are nuts. The measels CB is the same size and weight of the Super Pro Aramith (non measels) CB. I have a scale that measures to 1/100th of an ounce and it is the exact weight and diameter.
I play 1 hole all of the time with the measels CB and it reacts just like the others do.. It's all in your mind.. IMHO

yeah.. i think its only created so that it'll look better on TV, you know, see how the pros are spinning the ball....

I have 2 of them.....no not a joke! you pervs:D...I carry 1 in my case, and the other is on my home table. I also went out and measured mine with a digital caliper, and they are VERY close to tolerance (about 2 mil.)

The only time I don't like playing with the ball is if I'm playing 1 pocket, because it will give away how I hit some shots. other than that.....they rule!

FWIW, I have a "measles ball" sitting on my shelf at home gathering dust. It is not that I found anything wrong with it, it is simply that it didn't contribute anything to my practice.
I do find it occasionally reveals something interesting about what the pros are doing when I watch them use it, but other than that I find it useless but harmless.
