Who do you think will win the 2006 US Open?

Based on how they're racking and breaking I like CORY DUELL. The absence of 4 of the other top 20 (maybe 4 of the top 5) players also strenghtens his case. RODNEY is my 2nd choice.

I'll have to agree with you on picking Corey. I was watching him practice rack your own to get ready for this tournament and he is capable of running the set out at any time. He was actually able to tell me what pockets he was going to shoot the balls in before he broke. I haven't seen any other player be able to do that.

Those ...

that were picking Larry Nevel now have a long road, as Gabe beat him in the first round.

2 interesting matches kind of taking shape for the 3rd round are:

Evgeny Stalev vs. Jamie Baraks
Marcus Chamat vs Ronato Alcano

These 2 will be good matches if all get to the 3rd round.

I picked Corey in the online poll also because of the "rack your own". I like Mike Davis for similar reasons but he's got a mighty tough bracket just to get to the final 16 winner side starting with Jayson Shaw.

I received a PM from our brave friend 'The KId' backing out of the bet so if anyone else wants action, the line is now 16-1-Rodney could not make a ball in his first match.

I'm torn between Corey Deuel and Mika Immonen. I think Corey is always a major threat and has proved himself winning before. Mika is probably tired of playing the bridesmaid, so I look for him to check his issues at the door and step up large. Rounding out my top three is Gabe Owen. Owen can't be considered an underdog anymore and I look for him to make it to the semis at least, if not all the way. Speaking of Owen, my dark horse, Tyler Edey might be this years Gabe Owen and live up to what some people have seen in him recently. He sent one of my early favs Pagulayan to the B side which kind of took me by surprise. Had I responded to this thread before the start of the US Open I'd have picked Pagulayan to take the cake. Coming from the B side, I have to lower his chances a bit.

I'm going put my foot down now and say Mika Immonen takes it.

Just talked with Corey and he said the tables aren't racking how he would of liked. He said his first two mathes were very easy but is hoping he plays on tables that rack better for when he has to play some tougher opponents.

Tyler is starting to make a habit of "upsetting" big names at the US Open, I remember alot of people were surprised when he beat Strickland at the Open back in 2004. When he's on his game he can beat anyone.

Fine, you can have that bet.

I don't want to hear another peep out of you.

Based on the "rack your own" format, I'd give the edge to Corey over most.

But I think the two overall favorites are Ronnie Alcano and Johnny Archer, both of whom have been playing great lately.

I agree... :D All I know is I would check his racks very carefully! He knows how to wire the rack better than anyone I know! And Troy does the same thing... lol

Will the last day (TV Matches) still be rack your own?

Also, what is the furthest anyone has come from on the losers side and WON the open?

Is everyone gonna continue to ignore the 500lb gorrilla in the room?

Earl is still undefeated.

My early top 3 were Immonen, Deuel and Owen (in that order). They're all still on the winners side, so I like my odds that the eventual champion being one of my top three. I've picked Immonen to raise the trophy, and since he's currently rippin' it up I feel confident in that prediction.

Robb Saez is up next for Mika, and I'm confident Mika will move through that 11-7 or better.
