Who Has Run 5 Racks Or More

7 racks 9-ball 3 times, 88 balls straight pool on very old slow nap cloth.

I've beaten the 10-ball ghost many times 10-ahead sets. Beat 11-ball one long set. Working on winning long sets of 12-ball ghost. I know another player who has beaten the 12-ball ghost that is not a top ranked player although he has been mentioned here. I'm sure many of the top guys can do this or better, but not sure if they want everybody to know that.

Who beats the 9-ball, 10,11,12,13,14,15 ball ghosts? I heard Andam uses two racks of balls to practice. Anybody beat the 30-ball ghost here????

How do you rack for the 12 ball ghost, or do you just break 15 and take 3 balls off the table?

This thread reminds me of something I saw recently at the poolhall. It was a Friday evening and I wanted to hit some balls before I went out for the night. I got to the poolhall and the place was packed, all but one table was in use. Right before I could ask the bartender for the table, some guy walks up in front of me and asks. He gets the table and starts playing by himself. He racks all 15 up, probably playing 8-ball, and he breaks. Takes his first shot, misses, and reracks. Breaks again, takes his first shot, misses and angrily shakes his head, and reracks. Breaks again, makes his first shot and misses his second. Throws his stick on the floor and reracks. This went on for about 15 minutes before he got fed up and quit. His high run was 3 balls I think. He switched house cues about 15 times and complained to the bartender that the table was dirty. He could barely hold a stick. I'm sure if he was a member of this board he would probably claim to have run 7 or 8 racks a few times. :D

How long did it take before you guys ran your first string of racks? (maybe there's still hope for me)

I think this is an interesting question. The first time I ran more than one rack of 9-ball was one of the first times I gambled with another decent player. And I was behind in the set (he was on the hill). He broke, came up dry, and I ran out the rack, and broke and ran the next two to get to the hill-hill. But, I lost that set.

2. I suspect many of these 5 rack runs include golden breaks

Well, I'll agree to this. I mean, if we're talking about someone's all time best run, things had to be going right. And, IMO, it has to be after playing a while, after really getting the table down. Like a tournament or a gambling session.

or early combinations.

Personally, I've "run" a 5-pack and a 6-pack, and I guarantee some of them had early combinations.

Earl's run of racks for the million dollars had a couple of balls on the snap and maybe a combination thrown in. They ALL counted towards the total. The only TOTAL that didn't come out right was the total money.

Or challenge Efren to do it on such a poor table :D

Just like ten ball but put two more balls in the back with one space open between them in the center. Lots of balls go in on the break. It's easier than 11 ball (one ball in the last row in the center kills) I think, but I can't seem to prove it yet.

So whats tougher, breaking and running a 5-pack or throwing 9-balls on the table and running them out wherever the lie 5 times in a row? If you run a --- package in 9-ball from the break, you are not really playing 9-ball, it's more like 8-ball or 7-ball, hell sometimes even 6 or 5 ball.

When you break each time you have to control the cb on the break and hope you get an open shot. When you throw the balls on the table you probably start with BIH and that makes it easier to clear the table.

I have run 5 racks from the snap on 3 different occasions, twice on Rebco 4 1/2X9's and once on an Olhausen 4 1/2X9. I've never gone beyond that. The first time I did it, we were warming up for a tournament and I was warming up with the best money player in town and he freaked out. I lost my first match in that tournament btw. Another time I was just practicing by myself. The third time I was playing someone for time on the Olhausen. I don't run racks as a rule. As a matter of fact, I don't make a ball on the break all that often. When I had these runs, I was definitely in the zone and this does not reflect my day-to-day game.

how dare you belittle my accomplishments!! I'll have you know that I take pride in the fact that I have broke and ran before. Even if it happens 1 in maybe 100 tries. A lot of the other players in my league have never broke and ran!! So if I can't even run 5 racks in a row, who can??!!?

that is hilarious!! :D :D :D :D

Theoretically I could run about 25 racks of 9-ball.

I'll spare you all the math and just trust you are convinced :p  :D

help Colin... my math is poor!:D :p

More racks

I was playing in a local tourney to qualify to go to a state tournament. Race to 6 . My opponent ran 5 racks and down to the final 9 ball. I can't believe he missed a straight in nine ball. I made the nine and ran 5 racks back to win 6>5! Way back (70's) when Hardtimes was in Costa Mesa CA, I watched Keith run 7 racks , back to back, and then ran another 8...his opponents never hit a ball. That makes 22!

I've run 6

miles before, and boy did that suck.

I haven't run any more than 1 on a 9 yet, but I hardly play on them at all. On a barbox, I've run 2 of each out (8b started w/ a table run, so almost 3). I hit 3 8b breaks in a row earlier this year (barbox, of course) and I'm pretty sure I've cheesed the 9 3 times in a row, but that's just good or lucky leaves, not really running. My little strings were after playing about 14 months, so I'm pretty happy still. I'll hit 2 years in December.. hopefully I can throw together at least 3 in each by then. My 8b break (head ball) is pretty good and I've just recently figured out a much better and more consistent 9b break for myself.

I just got a chance to play snooker for the first time with Bsmutz last weekend and got myself a 40-point high run, so again I was pretty happy. He beat me around in 9 when my game took a breather.

After seeing what I could do in this short time and from what I've read (here, books, etc), I don't doubt for a minute the x-packs.

Oh yeah, just recently got an opposite-handed bnr in 8b.

I have only run two myself because I'm not very good.

However I did have the pleasure of watching a 9 pack about two weeks ago. Was a beautiful thing to see. No 9s on the snap and one early 9 in the jaws. Other than that just great breaks, CB control and shot making. Nine foot table, 4.5 inch pockets.

That's the most I have witnessed up close and personal. It really looked easy from my seat.

A 3-pack is the most I've done in both 9-ball and 8-ball. My break is too poor to get any kind of streak going. I doubt I've even made a ball on the break in 9-ball six times in a row let alone clear the rack! I've also made the 9 on the break three racks in a row (in the same pocket!), and have run out a rack left-handed.

I'm more impressed by running a high number at Straight Pool, or having a great record against the ghost. Getting 'X-packs' just seems to involve too much luck making a ball on the break every time.

Strange occurence

Was hitting some balls around after leagues the other night with a buddy of mine. We were playing 8 ball and I've always had a terribly unpredictable break. So I was experimenting with a different spot for the break and ran a very non-textbook seven pack. Was only out of line about 17 times or so but kept managing to sh$t my way out of it. Of course I then followed this up with about 5 empty breaks.

I was in the middle of a 7 pack once, then my freakin alarm clock went off.:D

In the real world.
A 3 pack in 9 ball once.
A 2 pack in 8 ball.

My breaks worse than Efren's so I rarely get chances to improve on these stats.
