"shootin' from the hip"
Over the weekend, I stumbled upon some interesting videos on Youtube by Paul Zyk.
The guy giving the instructions seems to have a very good understanding of the game. Does anyone have any idea of who he is?
He looks familiar but his name is never mentioned.

thanks in advance.

Here is a video.

On the instruction, the clock thing seems like a viable reference system. It's kind of out of sync with the student's abilities though.

Its pretty much the same thing that Buddy Hall and Bert Kinister teach. You need a "good", "accurate" hit of the cue ball for this to work well. it is a good reference though.

I have the Buddy Hall video about the clock system, it's not bad but is a bit cumbersome to sort out. Like many of the "systems" for aiming it gives a starting point to work from for newer players or those with some specific issue, and then once you see the angles and the shots you use your learning to simply adjust the shot without all the math and pointing. The main "aiming system" I use for english is simply the idea for each tip of side spin the cueball with go one diamond further up the rail.

I took a look at the first video, he was teaching him an aiming system for spin but it was assuming the shaft was a high deflection one, the aiming point was to the side of the object ball. Not sure if that is a good idea since it develops a set aiming point that can fail to be correct often depending on the shaft and speed of the shot.
