Who made ESPN Stupid?

Jay,

Almost all players always think "me first" and in the short term. I can understand the thinking since most are scratching like hell to make a living right now, literally how do I eat and pay bills. However we will have a hard time ever building a sport with this today is what is important and the hell with tomorrow attitude.

Hu

its cool that the players think me first, as they should, the promoter just needs to work that into the equation when comming up with a tournment structure that could be duplicated. Like my employees they dont give a rats ass about me or what I make-I'm not mad at them, I just set it up so they are happy-in most cases.

Would that be the LA Open? I have a milk crate full of old VHS tapes and I think I have both of these matches. Earl edges out Archer in the finals if I remember right. I remember these matches because they were really good and I watched them quite a few times. I guess it's time to dust off the VCR and compare the old matches to the new.

yes thats the event

Poolbum Stole My Thunder

I was watching a WPBA 9-Ball match a few days ago and one of the players made an object ball but was locked up behind a couple balls along the centerstring and couldn't get a clean shot on the ob. The audience clapped as soon as the object ball kerplunked into the corner pocket and continued to clap even though the cb was snookered. It was a WPBA match, after all. Does the WPBA bus spectators to watch and clap on cue? :) LOL! I used a pun! :D Of course, that's my hypercritical side.

As for ESPN, let's stop with the short races and alternating breaks. I think I'm going to have to buy accustats...

Of course, even bad ESPN is better than no pool on TV at all.

I produced this event in April, 1992.
Thank you for doing so Jay! This is one of my favorite tournaments in my video collection. Earl just barely sneaks past Wiley and then Archer. He was funny, joking with the audience several times. And he makes a beautiful full-table jump shot, drawing back two rails for position. In the case game, he plays poor position and leaves himself almost frozen to the rail with a long shot. He jacks up and fires it in like it was a hanger and wins the tournament. Man that was good! Oh how I wish the old Earl was back.

Also, ESPN taped the finals of the women's tournament. Peg Ledman squeaked by Joann Mason-Parker in another good match. Unfortunately, I never saw Joann play before or after that match. What the heck happened to her?
