We have started a new season and I am shooting with a new team in a BCA league. We have 6 folks on the team with 5 folks that shoot each week. Our discussion is how to determine who should sit out each week.

1. Low person sits out the following week.

2. Each person sits out once every 6 weeks (5 on/1 off)

I believe option 1 ensures the best team is being fielded with consistent shooters. Of course some people will sit out more often.

Option 2 allows all players to shoot approx the same number of weeks and should be more fair.

Anyway just trying to get a feel for what is the best way to approach this.

we have six on my team and we agreed that the low two averages would rotate sitting out but nobody sits out two weeks in a row. it has worked out very well especially since in my league these players can act as subs on teams that need a player that night so even tho they don't play on their own team they still can play and help up their average.i can tell you from first hand experience it works out well.

Option 2. The only way to get the worse guys better is to let them play too. League is a team event. Things will usually work themselves out anyway. There will usually be 1 of the guys that has something to do. You should also make sure you have another Sub available also. League can be a long season. Things happen people move, change work shifts, get sick?

I like option 2.
Rotate everyone equally, however, checkout the schedule ahead of time and try to make sure your weakest player sits when you are playing the strongest team and your strongest player sits when you are playing a weaker team.

If you are planning on winning your league and a trip to Vegas, then this might be the way to go.If it's just primarily for fun, then it doesn't matter.

Having a spare is very important because as you know everyone can't allways make it every week.Having said that you got to keep your spare happy with his share of playing time.

If the team makes it to Vegas, then the lowest skilled player basically knows he's going along for the ride primarily as a cheerleader.

I have a standing offer to my team captain that at any time for any reason, he can sit me out. This includes playoffs and tournaments. I can always be the coach.

I think because I make this offer, my other teammates have been less defensive about sitting out without feeling bad about it. Maybe I guilt them into it.

We have seven serious players and we rotate the roster thru out the season and everyone plays approx. an equal number of matches. . For the season finals the top five players start and every player will play a minimum of one match. We play as a team win or lose.

I'm captain of my APA team, and I generally try and rotate the play/non-play weeks amongst my players. I try and keep everyone's match plays reasonably even.

Like someone above said, this is a league - it's not super-serious for everyone. People come out to play pool and socialize, not just socialize.

Now, this past session, when trying to rotate the match plays as evenly as I could, our team took first for the session by a huuuge margin. So you can rotate match plays and still be competitive. :D

This is exactly how I am as well.

When I was team captain I tried to rotate as much as possible but, depending on the match-ups, it didn't always work out. By the end of the session we are all about even though.

wow, I'll add $.02 since it's new to the discussion.

on my teams, we've preferred to have 5 solid starters, and make it known to the sub(s) that's the deal. the sub usually gets a lot of weeks in anyway.

if, however, you're committed to having a 6-person roster, then equal rotation (within everyone's schedule) is best.

I've always had the rule on my teams that the low person sits out the next week, and nobody sits two weeks in a row. with peoples busy scheduals though often somebody will volunteer to sit out so the low person doesn't always have too.

low guy sits on our team,it makes you play hard each week.the good thing is on our team we are all equall in our skill,so it just makes you compete better, also who ever is sitting still pays and that gets our 6th player to vegas as well.whether we win our trip or not we go anyway to vegas.its only happened once, last year.man did we crap the bed lolol.
