Why are the Shurtz cues made by Bob Owen so much less desirable than the ones he made under his own name?

I feel like on average, the Shurtz cues sell for around 3x less than the ones he made under his own name. Is there something about the production process that changed? Or something else?

I'm enough of a nerd I hang out on AZB forums. I've heard of Bob Owen but this is the first I've ever heard of Shurtz cues. That could be one major issue. Name recognition for a master builder vs. a cue line most people have never heard of.

I'm curious as to any construction differences too, but if that's similar it's probably just because Bob Owen is a well known master builder.

from my memory living in the Tulsa area in the 1990s.

Jake Shurtz made cues in Wichita - Bob Owen started working for him - took over the building process - eventually changed the name from Shurtz to his own name - now Gabe makes cues in the shop along side Bob.

Bob took over the cue building a long time ago. Jack made very few cues himself. He and his wife Eva traveled the midwest fixing/recovering tables for years. They used to have sort of a unwritten rule that cues below a certain price would be marked as Shurtz and above that would be Owens. IIRC they're all marked Owens now. The quality of ALL the cues was/is super high. Same time/care went into each cue.
