just curious, the IPT drew almost every living pool champ in the world, as well as some of the greatest Snooker players in history

What happened to the 3c champs?

Please don't mention money, surely none of them have the millions of an O'Sullivan or Jimmy White both of whom went after the challenge and none of them could be any more broke than some of the other Euros who went for it.

What gave?

Very good question. That has popped up in my mind also couple of times.

Maybe lack of information. Many good pool players didn't send the application bcos of that reason.

I'm sure most of the Carom Champs are not into Pool much, but for example Torbjorn Blomdahl, who has been the World Nr.1 for some time if I got it right, is excellent Pool player also and has joined many tournaments..

the info was out there, it got to everyone else, russia, asia, europe, everywhere

I would have loved to see Blohmdahl, Jaspers and Cauldron, even old man Ceulemans

and who wouldn't want to see how good Semih's stroke is on a pool table?

not to mention the interesting backroom action

personally I think higher level carom players look down on pocket billiards which is ironic to me as I believe it is the least difficult of the three disciplines

ive see video of semih playing 8 ball on youtube, he made one the craziest run outs ive ever seen, he runs out gets hooked on the 8 and kicks it in, but it was like sitting in the middle of table not against a rail, it was crazy.

I'm not so sure about this smasher, there were a lot of folks who did not hear about the "application to become one of the 150", and the qualifiers were not well known either (in the early going, later it didn't matter as folks didn't want to qualify to get an air barrel shot at them).

I know and respect the difficulty of all cue games played at high levels.

For me personally, I feel like carom (specifically 3-cushion) is the most difficult cue game to learn how to play. Obviously, everyones' opinion depends on how you measure difficulty. One possible guage is to measure dfficulty in terms of successful shot attempts divided by missed shots. High-runs in the game might be another good indicator of difficulty (normalized, of course - a 147 in snooker doesn't mean that the player made 147 successful shots).

On the flip side, even though players can run hundreds of points in balkline or average over 16 in one-cushion, I sometimes think of these games as even more difficult than 3-cushion in many respects.

I'm curious about what other people on this forum consider are suitable measures of difficulty when comparing games.

Well, it's kind of pointless to debate a question like this, but I wonder if you've enough personal experience with 3C to make an honest judgment. If you haven't I have a suggestion.

Watch a championship level carom match - there are a couple of complete matches for free on www.caromtv.com, like Blomdahl vs. Habraken. Then go to the nearest room with a carom table and play for an hour or two. My guess is that you'll be surprised how hard it is in reality, and that the difference between how the 3C champs play and how you play will be a lot bigger than the difference between how Efren and you play 9 ball.

did I offend you? Why do people get upset at the suggestion that one discipline may in fact be more difficult than another?
