The cue used in the movie was actually a Joss. They just said it was a Balabushka. And they probably used the name because it's known as the cream of the crop. More recognizable I would guess.
i would say they used the name balabushka because its the most desired cue in America... its name is legendary for being the best playing cue ever made...
now they are not talking about the new balabushka replica cues made by adams.. they are talking about the ORIGINAL hand made cues made by the master himself..
I'll put it this way, Balabushka cues didn't become so popular and legendary because of the movie, it was used in the movie because they were so popular and legendary. Also because he had already passed away, there was no conflict to promote that particular cue vs advertising a current manufacturer.
