Thanks JoeyA and poolpro...............I enjoyed those responses.

Yup. I was going to post on this thread, but those two summed up my views so eloquently, there's nothing to add but rep. Great posts and thread.

There has to be a certain amount of sticktoitiveness that people who play the game relentlessly regardless of the monetary payback that is almost masochistic. :-)

That's a great line Joey. Maybe the masochism is what spouses/significant others subconciously recognize and why they beat us up for playing this game. What they don't realize is that they are just piling on, the self-loathing is built into this game.

One just can't get enough of a good thing. VBG.

I can say that I have played more than one PERFECT game of pool. I mean that everything is working for you, perfect planning, perfect execution, perfect concentration. It is a high like no other. Dead stroke is incredible! For everyone who has ever experienced this high for even three minutes, you will forever be looking to achieve it again, and try to recreate it more often and for longer periods of time.

That's exactly right - rep to you.

In Playing Off The Rail, David Macumber wrote (paraphrasing here) "addiction is really nothing more than a good memory."

Well, I guess I'm addicted to this game.

Hey, great line. I have read that book, but don't remember that part. I am absolutely a pool addict. I do not now or ever had a problem with any illicit drugs or alchohol, but can't shake the pool bug. Actually, I have been in recovery for about 6 months, but thankfully have recently fallen off the wagon!

I think that the reasons mentioned here are the real reason we play, and the REAL appeal of this game. We are all on the same journey. See all of you down the road!
