Why do we like to complicate our pre-shot routine?

It should be simple, right? Make up your mind, get down, aim and shoot.
Why do we come up with all this extra crap? Just few examples, so you
all know, what I'm talking about. Archer like to constantly pick stuff off
the table, C.Williams like to get down and up at least five times before
almost every shot(I watch him play, I feel like I'm going to have a nervous
brakedown) sorry, I had to say it. A list of these things can go on and on.

I have a lot of stupid crap too in my routine, and I'm trying very hard to
eliminate it. All of these crazy little things, that we like to include in our
routines are unnecessary. Perhaps, I'm wrong, maybe we do need a
monkey on our backs, so please let me know, what you think.

We keep on doing our little rituals, and end up missing the shot anyway,
so why do we keep on doing it? It doesn't make any difference, does it?
Just extra horse crap, that we have to remember to do before each shot.

habit

We are creatures of habit...
Things that we have to "remember" to do have not been committed to
our routine as a habit.
Replacing bad habits with good ones is not one of the easiest things
to accomplish.

You hit this one right on the nose. We are creatures of habit, and the
more we create, the better we feel about ourselves. Maybe it's worthless
to even talk about this, cause we're humans, and we can't change that.

Good idea. Watch Mosconi, there is no screwing around. Point and shoot.

I agree, back in the days, nobody did all this dumb dance, like we do it today. Check
this out, I saw a guy look down on his feet before every shot, to make sure they're
positioned properly, WTF?

Good post: Maybe this will help.

First off there is a minimum of (3) pre-shot routines, not just a pre-shot routine. They cover the different portions of the Brain.

1. THINK.....Take our time and make a definite decision.

2. VISUALIZE....Stand behind the shot and see the entire picture happen.

3. DO IT...Execute your picture.
