I absolutely love the game, however, I voted for other for this reason. It is much lilke golf for me in that it is played against oneself. No one is trying to defend you. I'm fairly young and very athletic, other sports I've played I was good at almost immediately. I've been playing 3 years now and absolutely love the challenge of the game.
 
I voted for other, because this is one of the only sports where you are limited by things within your control. As a youngster growing up I excelled at hockey, baseball, and soccer but advancement in those sports is dependant on being picked or drafted to play at a higher level and if you haven't made it by the time you are 16/17 your career is washed up.

In pool I am only limited by the time I have to devote to learning and improving and the $ in my pocket, I can turn pro at 17 or 65. I can put my money up to play in the US. Open and play against Efren, Johnny, Earl, Cory or my personal favorite Buddy and nobody can stop me, unlike trying to play with Sid the kid, A rod or Beckham.

I do also love the game, but after running into a wall in three sports because someone else doesn't think I am good enough, I really respect pool for not ostrisizing anyone, if you can hold a cue you can PLAY! The only person who decides you are not good enough is you!

I have been trying to play golf at a high level for the last 10 years.That game is way harder than pool for me.I just can't grasp how to generate more clubhead speed to hit shots and get the ball flight that pros do.Great thing about golf though is that you don't have to play at a high level to enjoy it.I just get joy from being out on the course and playing my best that day!
 
Option "C" cracks me up! Pool is what drains my bankroll!!!

I play simply to play, I live simply to play, and after only 1 year of playing I don't think I could stand to go without ever again!
 
Why I play pool

I like the challenge & the competition, but the main reason - it's too damn cold where I live to play golf in the winter!!
 
the reason i play pool is the same reason i play chess. granted im a lot more enamored with pool than chess but i think i like them both for the same reasons.

they've both got tremendous depth to the game. in chess, in the beginning each player has an option between 20 moves. by the 3rd move, a player has 8,902 possible moves. by the 6th move a player has 119,060,324 possible moves that he could have done. you can imagine why there has never been a recorded case of two chess games that were played exactly the same.
now all the thousands of games of pool i've played i've never played the actual same game of pool twice.

i guess ive just found two things i can do for the rest of my life and never get bored of it.
