Why Is The "Aiming By Halves" Thread Locked?

Please explain why "Aiming By Halves", a serious thread about aiming, is locked, but "Aiming By Full Ball", a parody thread created only to mock "Aiming By Halves", isn't?

Then explain why the moderation here should be respected.

I agree. I don't understand why it was locked. Aiming by Full Ball however is a completely serious way to aim and that thread should go forever. :-)

Most forum moderation teams have come to realize that locking threads doesn't solve much as the tend to blow up again in a new thread. If John wants to be tazed, he'll find a place for it.

PJ did make a worthwhile suggestion in the ABH thread that I think you two should follow-up on: Just stick your fingers into a light socket, flip the switch, and whoever survives should be declared the winner of the ABH/CTE aiming contest. :D

You two really do need a separate forum just dedicated to aiming systems, where you folks can argue and taser each other for all eternity.

There is no ABH/CTE contest, except in the minds of some CTE devotees here (you know, the ones who immediately leaped on the ABH thread like it was a cockroach in "their" kitchen).

The moderators seem to think its CTE's kitchen too.

I have no desire to be tazed and that's why I proposed a bet that guarantees I won't be.

You smart guys however know that I have a lock and wisely didn't take the bet or you'd be lying on the ground shaking after my student runs over yours.

And I am the WORST teacher of the aiming methods you constantly attack.

Get someone good and you would lose so badly you might quit pool.

I really want to learn CTE but am too cheap to buy the DVD from Stan. And that's saying something cuz I'll buy just about anything. (I guess thats who makes it? Stan Shuffet?) I can't quite get the hang of it using all the free information out there including and especially your videos. Something about the pivot makes no sense and my aiming turns silly. So in the mean time I think it's better to go on ridiculing it. I can do that for free and still make most shots I aim at.

If someone wants to send me the koolaid I promise to give it a fair shake and if it's all it's cracked up to be I will swallow my pride and admit it. I will cheat on the bet you know. My student will be better than yours from the gate as I have no intention of getting tazed.

No problem. You know the old adage about leading a horse to water but you can't make him drink applies to people as well.

You can't cheat on the bet because we will go to a mall and find two people who have never played pool before to to the experiment.

I don't really give a shit if you give it a "fair shake". It works whether you get it or not. It works whether you are fair or not. Your understanding of something that works and ability to use it has zero bearing on how good it is. That's like saying if someone gave you a Ferrari you'd give it a fair shake when you don't even know how to drive it.

Of course ridiculing things you don't get and don't understand is the cheapest form of sport that exists. It's free and requires the least amount of brainpower. Which is why so many people do it. Everything else requires some actual thought and analysis. The very best critics are the ones who actually have experience in a subject. The people who spend the time to learn something are the best critics of what they learned. Those who won't spend the time are the worst critics because they speak from ignorance. But ignorance is free and you get what you pay for.

Easy there........

If you're not sending the DVDs just say so. No hard feelings.

With exactly the same eyesight, hand/eye coordination, aptitude for math/geometry, physics knowledge, game/puzzle experience, competitiveness?

You cannot prove this argument scientifically, using the methods you propose. furthermore, I can't think of a method which would prove it, either way.

How about 'live and let live'? You don't like their way, they don't like yours, just leave each other alone.

p.s. I aim by feel, ghost ball, edge, clock, fractional, whatever puts the ball in the hole.

Yeah, I feel pretty much the same way. Unless you can duplicate the person, it's really a crap shoot on who learns what and how. A long time mid-range APA player said he'd be giving it a shot, so he's got a few more months before I check in on him.

PJ, you've got a good head on your shoulders and I've appreciated all of the effort that you've put into this, but the only thing that comes to mind right now is this. Don't worry, it applies to a lot of people that wanted to keep going. Maybe we'll find the answer eventually in National Treasure 3(or is it 4 now?).

Seriously???

You can look to other sports which have proven scientifically and to scientists who study physiology and psychology to easily see that improvements in performance can be directly linked to improvements in technique/approach. They don't study just single athletes, they study whole groups and compare average performances over time while factoring in improvements in equipment.

Live and Let Live? Sure absolutely.

The first time I see a thread about aiming that is NOT about the methods introduced by Hal Houle where the Defamation League stays out of it to let the people who WANT to learn it discuss it in peace then I will stay out.

When I see a thread about Ghost Ball that does NOT specifically mention the other aiming methods and mock them then I will stay out of it.

I was the one who said that the "feel" crowd should leave the aiming threads alone and they could watch them die out after a few posts. I was the one who said live and let live. But they CANNOT do it.

So don't even try to put this on me. It's not. Even if I don't post they will seek to destroy every thread about aiming methods they don't agree with.

I HONESTLY don't care if someone truly wants to aim by guessing. More power to you. Pool room owners LOVE the people who think that they can get better by hitting a million balls with no method. If you think that you can learn to play the 10,000 possible shots by practicing each one of them 100 times in a row then go for it.

I offer you a way to get there without having to shoot the same shot 10,000 times. I offer you a way to learn a system that works for any shot on the table. Once you REALLY master it then you OWN all the shots on the table as long as your form is consistent.

But you don't HAVE to try it. As long as you don't ACTIVELY campaign to stop others from trying it we are cool. That is the main problem I have with Pat and his buddies. And of course I have a problem with the continual defamation of character that they perpetrate against the well respected members here who have been giving back to pool for most of their lives.

That video is awesome.

Freddy has some systems on his videos and in his books to figure banks. These are ball to ball methods based on locations.

Is he wrong?

If you follow his systems then you will take most of the "feel" and guessing out of most bank shots. Of course there will still be some feel to know how hard to hit the shot to cinch it but you will be on the right line to make it.

So you have a guy who reads Freddie's book, practices the techniques for aiming banks that Freddie teaches and he matches up with a guy who was about the same speed who banks by pure feel. The only difference between these two is that one guy spent a solid two weeks learning to bank Freddie's way.

Who do you want to bet on?

Let's take it a step further and say that there is a way to have the same guy play himself.

Set up 100 bank shots BEFORE he reads Freddie's book and see how many he makes.

Now give him Freddie's book and two weeks to practice.

Now test him on the same 100 shots.

Which version will be the better banker?
