Why is the joint screw called a "pin"?

Does anyone know why the joint screw is called a "pin"? I never liked that term. It is, after all, a screw and not a pin. I'm curious if anyone knows the history of its name, and if it was always called a pin, or it used to be called a screw at one time. Not a big deal, just one of my pet peeves about cues...

I am no expert in speech but I would think the term refers to the function. It is a screw and it's function is as a connector. The same term is used in medical terms, "They put a pin in his hip". I would think "pinning" something is to connect it together. It is funny how people are different, I prefer the term. Now ask me about the term "Painting" when referring to finishing a cue. It congers up horrible images of a guy with a brush and a bucket.

You feel that way about the term "painting" too??? lol, I don't like the term either. My guess, is that clear coat finishes, are the same thing as the paint they are going on, except without the pigment, so some people just call it paint...

a small slender (often pointed) piece of wood or metal used to support or fasten or attach things
Jon calls 'em threaded nails b/c he hammers them in.
He makes sure there tissue paper at the bottom so it doesn't buzz though. Very clever.

You feel that way about the term "painting" too??? lol, I don't like the term either. My guess, is that clear coat finishes, are the same thing as the paint they are going on, except without the pigment, so some people just call it paint...

a substance used as a coating to protect or decorate a surface (especially a mixture of pigment suspended in a liquid); dries to form a hard coating

Clear coat, Chroma Clear you gotta try, is paint then by definition since it protects.
Now on pins, here's one question. How come there are so many slackers in the machining/grinding business?
We finally got our 3/8 11 pins after months of waiting. But, I wanna check your referred source if the bronze kind isn't too costly and if it doesn't take a months to get em made.
You gotta see these anodized aluminum pins. I'll email you some pics.
