I agree with you. He's doing well and is definately in contention to win.

I've had the pleasure of watching gamble pretty high the last two years at Derby and was really impressed with his game. I knew he was a great player but felt that he wasn't a tournament player......kind of like Tony Watson. BUT, I guess all of that road time with Double J really shaped his game into a great player for the cash and in tournaments. It would be great to see another U.S player win the Open. I think the finals will be a pretty close match.

I had a real bet on him in the finals- Amazing he was a one game underdog!! It was great match to sweat as it was almost worry free after game one. Gabe played better than anyone else down the stretch (at least) and deserved the crown.

Gabe is our own

I have been watching Gabe shoot a long time, since before he could get in a Poolroom legally, and he is a great player. He just keeps getting better and better, and anyone that watches him for very long will tell you that Gabe has some finess to his game. He plays all the games well, and I think his name will be up in lights some more in the future.

He is from Wichita, Kansas although Tulsa would try to claim him, but he grew up here in Wichita, and started playing here, and pretty well splits his time living here and in Tulsa when he isn't on the road.

His father, Bob Owen, is partners and makes the cues for Shurtz Custom Cues here in Wichita. I would say 90% of the 'players' here in Wichita shoot with a Shurtz custom cue, and several in Oklahoma too. Bob plays pretty well, himself.

Gabe's brother, Robert, completed his masters in Electrical Engineering, and is working in Washington, D.C.

Bob, Gabe, and Robert are all very nice men.

Gabe's brother was in the stands right behind us. He was very happy and proud, as you can imagine.
