I read this quote from an interview with Ronnie O'Sullivan:
"You feel like a gladiator. Money can't buy that. Imposing yourself on a game is as near to a gladiator as I get and that's why we play this game."
I thought this was the post match interview that this quote came from.

I just listened to it again but didn't find the quote.(I got distracted a couple of times.) The interview is well worth the 15 minutes.(approx)

I listened to this one, didn't hear the "gladiator" quote, but it was a fun watch/listen, anyway.
honestly, I was cracking up at steve's expressions the whole time..I don't follow snooker much, but if there're too many tournas, couldn't they just give the smaller tournas less weight? then, if a top player needs to skip a small one to get in gear for a biggy, he won't be penalized too much. seems smart, but again, I don't know much about it-
 
ps I may have jumped topics..re: "why we play this game," basically, I enjoy it- it sparks something in me, and in the world around me, that I find worth pursuing.
I find pool interesting and challenging on many, many levels..pool is a simple game on the face of it, that I've discovered over the years possesses much depth. mining that depth *usually* gives me much joy :grin:
