I just got this old cue and case the other day and want to find out more about the cue...

I would like to know when it was made....I can't seem to find another cue with this same style silk(?) wrap either...you can kinda see right through it. Looks like brown rings were painted at the top and bottom...I can only find cues with the black leather wrap.

This cue came out a Bill Mcdaniel's shop in TN. I don't believe the shaft is original...but I do have another shaft that is.

I really like the look of this cue...even though I'm really not into collecting old stuff so much...this is my first Willie Hoppe cue.

The case is an Elephant ear Kelli case...It's a very cool case even though it's got some battle scars...

the sticker gives the date away.
late 60's, early 70's.
it's a newer titlist.
buttcap looks original.
wrap was done somewhere else....
that case is the nuts though.......damn.

Thanks...I think so too!

Hey Chris...

That Kelli case is awesome...I've had a few Elephant ear cases...they have such a unique feel...I thought about cleaning this one up a little but really don't know what to use on it...I probably should just leave it alone.

As far as the cue goes...I think the wrap is original...it really feels great too...

Thanks for your input...

Hi Jeremy,

the material looks like non-brushed leather. In this case, leather soap is the cleaner of choice. It's cheap, and you get it in any shop which deals in leather garment for bikers or in riding gear - they call it saddle soap. It's basically pure glycerine soap without any perfume. You use a moist sponge with soap and rub the case thoroughly. There will be some soap-residue - don't wash it out, it's meant to be soaked up. You can rub the remains with a piece of cloth after the case dries. For total care, you can rub it with leather grease after it's completely dry.

With leather, it's always a good idea to try the soap at a small and hidden patch like the bottom to test whether the colour is resistent - while the soap is well-suited for the leather itself, there are some dyes which do not withstand soap and fade out.

Right, it's elephant. However, if its surface is not artificially roughed up but retains the natural structure, you can use leather soap to clean it. You don't use it on suede, but the cases' texture doesn't look like suede at all.
