Wisconsin WAMO Tournament

What's going on up in the Dells? A lot of the 'A' players from around here are up at Chula Vista Resort slugging it out with the cheeseheads. Somebody must have brought their laptop with...Who's looking good in the tourney? Who's raking in the $ on the side? Who's the Darkhorse?

Not even there, but I have to put it on John Fields if he is there. That is one strong playing mofo.
I often wonder how good he could have been if he was able to travel to FL and season up a bit.

If he isn't there then maybe Powers.

Oh the memories of that tournament. Used to play it back in the 80's and early 90's before I moved to FL. Randy Lamar and Duncan Kaufman were the guys to beat back then. I know Duncan did well in the state BCA tourney. Wonder if Randy is still playing much.

Randy is still playing top notch. He did pretty well in the WIBCA in January, I think he got 5th in the Masters Division. And Duncan got 2nd.

Yes! That is the other name that was escaping me. Lamar; he and powers were very good back in the day.

There was a guy I saw once that was called "lil' Rat". Who was that? He was pretty strong as well.

Duncan is playing all the time and doing quite well. He recently got his new Viking cue and it seems to have inspired his play.

Lamar plays poker and almost no pool.

Powers doesn't make any tournaments outside of Vegas to the best of my knowledge. I assume he gets his weeks in at a league somewhere in MKE.

Fields seems to find reasons not to play. He still plays strong but the grind of playing seems to wear him down to the point of not wanting to play.

The WAMO tournament itself is designed primarily for the weak to average player. The payouts are watered down in the team event with too many teams being paid. If they have a masters singles I would be surprised if the field hits 16. The event is run fairly well and the location chosen is usually decent but it's just not an event for the top players in the state.

Not sure who "Lil Rat" was. It's been too long. Ken Fitzpatrick was another real strong player out of Madison back then.

If you're talking Fitzpatrick then you mean Jim. He still plays a little.

Tom & Dan Ratajczyk were the big & 'lil "rats" as I recall. Dan did well in the 9-ball division at the Olympia Open in January.

Big Rat (Tom) has given it up. They couldn't find any stronger lenses for him!

Lil Rat (Dan) still plays some. Has a 9 footer in his basement in Watertown.
Did place high in Olympia Open II and has made it to one or two of the
Carom rooms events.

Ah yes Jim Fitzpatrick it is. I was confusing myself with a Ken Fitzpatrick that I knew from LaCrosse that I played with often. Thanks for the reminder.

I would say that the favorite would be Geno Albrecht. There is plenty of small action(10-20 a game or 100 to 200 sets)from 8 to 12 people from the Chippewa Valley. If interested I can be reached via email at dulian1@aol.com

A great matchup that could take place would be John Fields and Chad DeBruyckere.

The only strong playing Ken I can recall is Kenny Cross. He played all games well. I think he owned a restaurant (maybe a Perkins) but he seems to have disappeared for many years.

Scott,

Geno is back again from the KC area?? Needless to say that he is/was one of the best bar table players in the country.

I know Chad plays well but I thought he took a break. Just the same, I don't see him beating Lil John without some sort of handicap (drinking counts).

Oh yeah Ken Cross. Forgot about him. The Ken I was referring to was a good player but not in the same league as the guys we're talking about. I too thought Geno was still in KC. Definitely a monster on the bar box.

Wamo

Hmm....I wonder....perhaps I will be making a trip to the Dells this weekend with some of the fellas. Could be worth our while if there is action in the $100 and above range.

McCluskey played Geno some cheap stuff in Wausau in Jan. and Tom won, so Geno would need some weight from lil John. John's break is so strong and Geno isn't the same player he used to be. I let Geno off the hook hill-hill in Wausau and played the worst set of my life against him at WIBCA two weeks later.

I am going to try and make it up there for a little this weekend if I can find a babysitter.

action!

patrick, you and the fellas should come to beloit this weekend! I'll play anyone you bring for more than 100.00.just an offer, not barking. Tom McCluskey

I may try some

Tom, I would need some serious weight but I think I would try you some. I was there last time when you tried to get Kenny to play. I know that me, Kenny, and Petey will be there this weekend. I am not sure if Big Jay and Applejack will come or not... If they did, they would be there strictly for action as they did not play in any of the prior events.
