Wondering where the worst refs in the world are? May I present the BCA...

First BCAPL Rule 1.1 is: A players responsible for knowing all the rules!

What good is it to know the rules and have a ref blow the call, when you and everyone else around knows it was a bad call? Many players know all the rules! If the Ref's were strong players they would have to know all of the rules as well.

As far as players taking the moral high ground I can't think of a sport (even golf) where players will say "my bad that didn't count".

Sorry I disagree here. PGA golfers and even the mini-tour guys call themselves for rules violations all the time. It's probably the most honorable sport there is from that respect.

I have never seen anyone attempt to stop people from entering the ballroom with food or drink from vendors outside such as the ABC store or the food vendors in the food court or other sections of the casino. Seriously in well over 10 years of going to the BCAPL in Vegas, the VNEA championships as well, I have not only never had it happen to me despite taking pretty much everything into the ballroom including full bottles of spirits but I have never seen it happen to anyone.

The Riv kind of screws themselves over abit on their prices at times. Last year I found the food to be fairly reasonably priced, but the price of a beer was so drastically more expensive then ABC I always walked there to get a drink of any sort. Charge $0.50 or $1 more for a beer or mixed drink at the vendors then the ABC and they would be swamped because at that price point it is not worth the hassle to walk to ABC to get the drink. Charing 2-3 TIMES as much as the ABC for the same product? I am sorry but you are simply begging people to go buy their booze at the ABC store or elsewhere.

Some people will be lazy or not know any better and pay a 300% markup on a beer, so be it if the Riv thinks they are doing their best by scalping those people instead of selling more quantity all the power to them. But you cannot force people to get fleeced on markups like that.

Not true - I was stopped this year with soda I purchased at the ABC store and was told that it was a different vendor selling inside the pool room and I could not take it in. same with other items. They had a food / drink NAZI at all both rooms.

Refs did a good job

I had a few occasions to call a ref and in the most part did an ok job. there was one call that I was not in aggreement with, but since I was not standing in the proper position to see the angle I just so ok.

What I want to do is send a big public thank you to all the ref's that help control our late night match on Friday night with the unruly and rude Saskation team that almost broke out into a free for all. about halfway through the match they had about 50 fans and they were just shouting explicitives at us and trying everything to get us off our game (we did win 13-9) but when I went to the main ref control stage and asked for help they sent 2-3 + the head official to come and control / watch and keep things under control and stopped us from being threatened by these fans.

:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Will be back next year to try and do better than our 17th place.....

You question is a good one, and I think you missed the point.

Players are responsible for know rules! First BCAPL Rule 1.1 is: A players responsible for knowing all the rules!

Referee is also responsible for know all the rules, they take a rules test to become referees, take a call in Las Vegas to become National Referees, and are to make call per the rule book.

Are Referees perfect NO, and Referees in the NFL, NBA, MLB, etc. make bad calls also.

Are Referees under paid I would say YES.

Are people standing on line to become BCAPL National Referees, NO.

What to get more people as Referees, MONEY is a LOUD VOICE IMHO!!

It must be nice to arbitrarily give yourself a 50% raise as the section fees went from $10 to $15 per person times how many members?

FYI - Yes the BCA Sanctioning went up from $10 to $15. The Part you are missing is that the old $10 sanctioning was owed for each BCA League you participated in throughout the year. The $15 is a one-time fee for the entire year.

This is cheaper for me because I play a couple different BCA leagues throughout multiple different sessions. If you play a fall league and a winter/spring league you already save $5. How dare the BCA for taking a 25% cut for these players.

Many players I know play in a Tuesday and Wednesday league and usually two sessions a year each. That use to be $40 to the BCA now only $15.
