wood/shaft sealer or conditioner

One option if you want a lacquer type sealer...http://www.mohawk-finishing.com/catalog_browse.asp?ictNbr=138
The 30 is better than the 50 as it's a lighter weight...less buildup. Seems to have a wax built in.
I personally like a polished wood feel and have found most sealers to leave a less than smooth feel, a lot of drag when stroking, and the water based ones tend to have a 'plasticy' feel to them. When sanding them to be more smooth, it clogs the paper and still feels draggy, IMO. I now use a much different approach, which seems to work well for me. The only time I use a dedicated out of the can 'sealer' nowadays is when redoing a cheap Asian cue that uses a Ramin wood shaft that will warp quickly unless it's immersed in a seal coat.

I've been using Joe's sealer for around two years and love it. I apply with a paper towel while spinning, let dry, hit it with 600 grit, apply second coat, hit with 600 grit, and wax.

It isn't Joe's instruction but it is what works well for me. I am getting much better results than I was with lacquer based sealers. Plus, no harsh chemicals.
Almost exact same way I use Joe's sealer....works great for me
