East Indies Rosewood is lighter than most other Rosewoods, but the color you showed us, even in East Indies is pretty heavy. I do get pieces of E.I.R. in once in a while that look kind of like Cocobolo like the picture you posted. But they are always heavier than the normal pieces. I have not read every post in this thread, but it sounds like cored Cocobolo may be more to your liking.

The design is box cue. I don't know if that makes a difference, if coco is easier or harder to cut. The idea in going with rosewood was to stick with an old school look, it's a titlist box cue idea I'm working on.

Coco is not hard to cut, but some cue makers have issues with it due to allergic properties in the wood.

If I were you, I would probably stick with East Indian. You can find a piece that you are looking for if you search with a little diligence. By chance would your cue maker happen to be Kent Taylor?

Rosewood is a very general term because there are more than a 150 kinds of rosewood that grow around the globe . Cocobolo is just one . The closer to the equator , usually the color is darker and the grain more stable because of the temperate climate . the farther away from the equator the colors are brighter and the grain is wilder , or less straight .
