Wooden joint protector pins?

I'm thinking about making wooden pins for the shafts on my 3/8 10 joint protectors instead of using steel ones.

I made a tester out of a scrap of lignum vitae and it seems pretty sturdy but I'm concerned of how it will hold up over time.

Has anyone used wood for the shaft pin on joint protectors? What species threads nice and clean and holds up over time that anyone had done so with?

I personally like the look of it.

Thanks

There's cues 75-100 yrs old still around with maple wooden threads that hold the shaft and the butt together.
The choice you made would be a good place to start. Any of the dalbergia species with their natural oils such as coco should also work well. There's really not much pressure put on JP's so I think a number of woods should work. A little carnauba on the threads after they're made will go a long way helping to burnish them in. Find something you like to compliment the cue.
