Wooden Rail Blanks vs Rubber Cushions question

Hey all, please excuse me if this is in the wrong area of the forum or been covered before, I couldn't find anything via search and it's my first ever post on here. So, hope it's in the right area ha-ha. The question is this.

Do the wooden rail blanks that the Rubber cushion rail sets go on ever go bad or when you get a dead spot on a rail, is it 90%+ that its the rubber cushion that needs replaced ? I have a early 80s Dynamo 7' Model 37 table. I'll say it's like 1983ish. From obtaining it to the mid 90s prior to leaving for college in 92ish it was put through the mill. Used hard. Sat idle ever since. When using it last, I remember it had a rail go bad. To the point of it would hit and almost stop ha-ha big thunk. I know the rubber cushion needs to be replaced. My question is do the wooden rail blanks ever go bad as well or do you think I could just get away with buying a set of the U23 rubber bumpers changing them and being about my way? I hate to buy the new wooden blanks if I don't need them but then again if I did, I could get wooden blanks and move to the K55 rubber bumpers vs the U23 bumpers, but swings me back to thinking if I just replace the U23 bumpers that saves me a minimum of $100 I can put towards a Simonis cloth vs having to settle for a lesser brand of worsted cloth cheaper in price. Hope you understand what I'm trying to ask ha-ha. Basically, do the wooden blanks ever go bad or is it just usually the rubber bumpers that need replaced? What brand of U23 or K55 bumpers do you recommend?

When it comes to worsted cloth. Has anyone ever had any experience with a more budget friendly worsted cloth other than Simonis? I've been looking at Andy, Velocity Pro, Proline Proform 505, CPBA, and a couple others and wondering if there's any price break between either of them or if Simonis is the only way to go? Ive since became disabled from a work accident and use pool as a way to abide my time now since I'm home a lot more. So, getting the old pool table back in order again. Just on a much smaller budget then I would have been before ha-ha so I need to pinch a penny anywhere I can but don't want to be spending pennies on junk that it nickels and dimes me to death either ha-ha.

Thanks in advance for any info you can give.

I am putting together a GC1 now at home and I plan to use the Championship Tour Edition 3030 cloth primarily because the GC I play on at my local pool room uses that cloth and it plays very well. As fast a Simonis 860hr and over 100 dollars cheaper.

Several possibilities possible for a dead rail. Wrong cushions installed, slate on framework set too low, hardening cushions, glue bond behind cushions breaking loose, or just the rail bolts being loose.

As for sub rails going bad, not likely unless there is physical damage... such as cracked, stapled (recovered) too many times with way too many staples, threaded inserts pulled out, water damage, etc.

To make your life easier, call Penguin and tell them what you have. For $220 (approx) you can replace ALL of the sub rails with new cushions. That is the uncovered price. For extra, you can have them covered with the cloth of you choice.

I like Simonis, but I agree that Championship Tour Edition is an equal alternative.
