I am actually getting ready to have my local cue maker Mike Webb, start production on a cue for me. He has a phenomal shop and has always exceded my expectations even with the smallest things like tips and just recently (as in today) a new wrap. My question is from a design stand point. I am deciding between three woods for the forearm of the cue. Amboyna, Gabon Ebony, Cocobolo. I have seen a finished cocobolo, and ebony, but never any Amboyna. Does anyone have any pictures of finished cues that has a forearm of the above woods?

Any other thoughts? I like the darker woods forarms, and love the swirl of burl. Does anyone know a site or can post some cue pics?

What feel are you trying to acheive? You have a pretty broad range of woods listed as far as feel is concerned. Ebony is going to be heavy and hit relatively hard. Amboyna burl is unstable and will transmit a softer hit. If you are basing your decision off of appearance then yes I would consider Amboyna burl only because of the looks. I look at most cues as true pieces of art but the artistic part of it has nothing to do with the feel of a cue.

Its all a preference but I like harder hitting cues. I aso like figured woods that stand out. You can find both of these features in a wide array of woods from koa(curly is nice if you can find it), texas ebony, african blackwood and 100's of others. Just my .02 Good luck with your cue.

Thanks for the information and picture. Mike Webb, cores out his woods, so he can make the hit feel uniform. I have hit with several of cues, all different woods, and he has some uncanny ability to make the cue hit how you want it to hit, no matter what woods you are using. I am at this point looking at different designs and different colors. I appreciate the post and really loving the look of the amboyna. Thank you very much for the photo.
