Snooker’s top stars assemble at The Crucible for the 2021 World Championship, and we’ve picked out our best betting tips for each day.
The annual snooker show-piece features the world’s top 16 ranked players alongside a further 16 qualifiers as they battle it out for £2.4 million in prize money from April 17 to May 3.
A host of decorated stars and exciting emerging talents lock horns at the sport’s spiritual home for the 45th consecutive staging in Sheffield.
A limited capacity crowd will be present inside the iconic venue for the opening fortnight, before the potential for a full capacity for the final.
Ronnie O’Sullivan returns to Sheffield as defending champion as he bids to equal Stephen Hendry’s record tally of seven world titles.
The 45-year-old enters the competition as second favourite behind world number one Judd Trump and is bidding to claim his first ranking silverware of the season following five consecutive final defeats.
However, recent form indicates the value could lie with Australian ace Neil Robertson as he resumes his quest for a first world title triumph since 2010.
Robertson claimed the UK Championship title in dramatic fashion last December and went on to win the Tour Championship last month by thrashing O’Sullivan 10-4 in the final.
He was almost unplayable during his run to glory that week, dropping just 12 frames in his three wins and making eleven centuries in the process to underline his status as one of the sport’s most prolific break-builders.
The left-hander is long overdue a strong tilt at the world title, having lost in consecutive Crucible Quarter-Finals and reaching just one Semi-Final since his maiden triumph eleven years ago.
Seeded number three, Robertson is situated in the opposite half of the draw to defending champion O’Sullivan and could face a Second Round clash with Jack Lisowski before potentially Barry Hawkins or Kyren Wilson in the Quarter-Finals and Trump in the Semis.
Robertson is best priced as 5/1 third favourite to double his tally of world titles and it looks like taking a special performance to stop him in his tracks.
