After watching a 1991 match with Earl Strickland vs Ismael Paez..i was horrified to see how terrible Ismael's mechanics were!! with Body English and lifting up..jerking it..all kinds of crazy stuff.. made me shocked to see that he actually made tough shots. Half of the time i think he was on some kind of drugs due to his jerky movements.

I'm not talking about unorthodox strokes like filipino players but those with just terrible looking mechanics.

I'd like to know who else at the pro level has terrible mechanics?

Alex Pagulayan......3 times he's had his car in the garage...and it's
still running rough..those mechanics couldn't fix a donkey cart.

Seriously,I think Bustamente has horrible mechanics....but he gives
weight to people with straight strokes.
 
Remember Arnold Palmer's swing in golf? and how about Lee Trevino? neither were textbook, but they are two of the greatest players of all time.

In pool just as in golf, i am teetotally convinced its all about the 4 inches before you hit the ball and the 4 inches after you hit the ball. the rest doesnt really matter. how you go about getting to that point is entirely up to you. proper fundamentals and mechanics can increase your chances at doing what you need to do in that 8 inch stretch also.

What players today have poor mechanics? funny you mention Ismael Paez, i watched his match at the U.S. Open (not sure what year?) with Mika Immonen on YouTube last night and i agree, terrible mechanics.

Allen Hopkins is another that comes to mind. perhaps even Keith McCready from the little that i have seen him play.
