Sounds like we might have played on the same table in the same joint. I was playing some guy $10 eight ball and had been partying quite a bit on Revolution Blvd and decided to go play some pool. I was three or four games stuck, paying off after each game, and when I finally won one, he marked it up on the wire and said "you got one". I was sober enough to realize I was in a bad spot and lost the next game & got out of there. There was another spot players used to go to and played a guy named "Blue". Nobody could beat him in this place and when somebody finally did beat him they got robbed on the way out. Frank The Barber knows some stories about Blue and the rooms in Tijuana if he reads this thread. John
Hi John, I just got back to the forum recovering from minor surgery.
Iremember blue (azul), We played in that upstairs pool room.
I had gone to TJ with a couple of buddys just to party and had no intention of playing pool. We wound up at that pool room about midnight and pretty drunk.
I asked Blue if he wanted to play and we settled on a five ahead set for $100. When we arrived there were no pool tables being used. Just a couple of domino games were in progress. Well as it turns out the domino games had to quit because they pooled all the money into the pool game to back Blue. I still remember they posted $92 American and the rest in pesos.
We started the game and I realized how bad the table was but it really didn't have much effect on me becaue of the liquior in me.
I remember him being about three ahead when I got into dead stroke. It seems that I sobered up wnough to put some racks together.
When I got to about two ahead I heard someone say to a kid in spanish to go get a policeman. I then realized we were going to get jacked up. I finished up the set in a matter of a few minutes and collected the stakes. They said to stick around that they had $500 coming. I told them that we would be right back after we got some food.
Just as we got to the street level and a few feet from the door we saw the kid with a policeman running up the stairs. They probably would have shook us down for all we had.
I had beaten Blue a couple of times in LA and now I understand why he was willing to play me in TJ.
