Would a cue ball with a design be a distraction to you?

Yup, the general non-real-pool shooter wouldn't buy a set on centennials over a set of elephant balls lmao, because the elephant balls are a scheme to make people feel like they spend the money on something that "looks" luxurious, what tools

That's not fair either. I guess not a lot of people here really know their history when it comes to pool balls. Pool balls used to come in way more "flavors" then than they do now.

I get neophytes that ask specifically for "the best there is" and in that case we point them to the selection of Aramith products we sell. Aramith makes all sorts of decorative ball sets as well.

If people are shopping on price then there are many choices for attractive balls that aren't Aramith products.

And some of these are actually quite decent in quality. I have a factory that I deal with that makes balls which can resist 70,000lbs per square inch according to them. I tested their balls thoroughly and they play just like Aramiths in my opinion. We don't yet sell these balls but they exist.

The same company also makes pure polyester balls that are decent and consistent and in every decorative style you can imagine.

I for one don't mind when someone creates a "new" game with a new set of balls. In that sense I'd be really happy if something did take hold and sweep the country - because a lot of those people who then come to pool through some new game will get the bug and drift on over to "real pool" making it a net benefit for everyone in the industry.
