If a stranger walks into your pool room and asks you if there is anyone there at your pool room that would like to play some $20 one pocket, what would you tell them?
Thanks,
JoeyA

Happens to me all the time

I usually just turn to the houseman and whisper...

"Call Dub" ;)

I have $20 to invest in another $20 or a $20 lesson, sure I'll try you once, maybe more depending on if I win, or how bad I lose

Keep in mind guys, that no one knows who posts what so if you like playing for $10 check it off.

Personally I don't mind if someone wants to play for lesser stakes than I am interested in playing or for more. I make my decision one situation at a time.

you have to try it no matter if he is a world beater or not. IF I played the game semi decent....which I don't, you gotta take a 20 dollar chance that the guy could be a sucker that goes off or a world champion that will just rob you. It's worth the 20 or 40 you might screw off. I'd do it if I could play alittle bit.

I say HELLL yeah, if i lose it won't be much and i might learn something. If win it will be good for the confidence and make for a good story. Its a win-win.

Actually, my standard answer is more like this, "I'll try you some, but I need 9-5 and the cracks." The problem is, this is someone who is walking into a strange room and woofing $20 1-P games to people he doesn't know. Which means I'm not asking for enough.

I would play him $10 a game, and if I started to get hammered, I would call in the "DH".

Let Them Eat Cake....and eggroll & coconut shrimp & shrimp w/lobster sauce & ribs &

It happened to me about a month ago. Apparently, he was a very good one-pocket player from NY or Chicago who is now living in Vegas. I agree to play him $20 a game (which is small stake) and I win the first game and he wins the 2nd. The guy plays a very slow methodical game and I am tired and never enjoy this type of game but I figure I can persist for 2 more games and I let him know this. So he starts playing even slower and takes a 10 minute bathroom break, I have lost interest completely and lose the 2 games. I pay up and leave.

Now the funny thing is there was only one person watching who was a friend of his from Las Vegas but over the course of the next week I have about 15 players ask me about this match. They had heard that I had gotten cleaned out by this guy (meaning I lost a $1000 or more), to I had gotten badly defeated, to the fact he had beat me all night long etc. etc.

I have no idea who was spreading these stories or why and I didn't really care that they were (probably better for me for future action) but it was a little strange.

I thought it was "Dutch"
or
If I played and won I mght ask him if he thinks I need to lose a little weight
or
I'd dump to him so I'd be a "super nobody" when I played him Atlantic City
or
I'd be a jerk to play him "He won the Akron Open"

I'll play him 10 a game to keep him in the room while waiting for the money and/or better players to arrive. Knowing me, I'd try to get a set of 9-ball going instead.

I wish you put a solid NOPE at the botten like you had SURE at the top.Thats what I would have picked.

I only gamble when I feel like I have an slight advantage or I know the other guy is very close to my same speed as ya'll say.A few hours of gambling and ending up dead even is fine with me.

A stranger,one pocket,for twenty a rack???!!!Hell no lol.

Not just because 1P is not my game either (its not at all),but any games I do play it would be a solid NO.

I would have to say, nope! I'm too young to play for gosh sakes I'm ONLY 50! I have tried, tried and tried again to play that game, (even made it my new years resolution 3 years ago! I just don't have the disipline. The last time I played one pocket, was with my husband, the only game he can beat me at, and I threw my cue on the floor and stormed out. I LOST THE BET!
Seriously, I would get on the phone and call a $20 player.

Poll aside, having wondered as a stranger into quite a few poolrooms looking for a modest one pocket game, I can tell you that in the real world about 90% of the time I've been steered to the room's top available player :)

Right, JoeyA?
