Would This Affect The Break?

some people have told me that, in order to keep from having so many burn spots on the table in the break area, to put a small piece of cloth under the cue ball when you break.

my question is simply: could this little piece of cloth i am breaking off of have an adverse affect on the break?

as per the other thread, i am having all kinds of problems with the break shot. last night i just decided to try it without the piece of cloth and i think i seemed to break better. as the night wore on though it seemed i went back to being a poor breaker again, i dunno.

anyway, just wondering if that little piece of cloth could make a difference?

IMO it would effect the break. If for no other reason than the fact that an extra thickness of cloth would enhance the jump effect during the break. This could effect whether or not the cueball is still in the air when it contacts the rack. I would also think that the extra cloth would absorb some energy that would otherwise be kinetic energy of the cueball.
I'm not sure of the effect, but it would have to have some effect.

We use them in our local poolroom, most people break the same with or without it. It does help the life of the cloth.

I've got a buddy that makes everyone use a "tee" when breaking at his table. I don't like it. It just doesn't feel right. I tell him its sorta like a condom. Should be avoided whenever possible...
