Would this help my game?

Snooker requires a lot more accuracy and touch than pool because of the rounded pocket corners. I think it certainly is a good thing to practice snooker. It will teach you precision and ball speed.

Even better: you should try to play some 3-cushion billiards... Great training for cueball control and safety play (or safety escapes).

Would playing snooker once in while help my game on the 9 footer?

It helped mine. The room we used to hang out at had a 5X10 snooker table. So we learned to play snooker. Then they got a set of numbered balls for it, so we started playing 9 Ball. I made the 9 on the break on the snooker table.:D Anyway it did help with my aim. I learned to pay more attn to exactly where i was hitting the cue ball. Golf is also fun to play on a snooker table.:)

The pool hall that I hang out in has about 20 12x6 snooker tables:eek:

Snooker is a great game. It is one that I think every pool player should learn to some degree. Long shots on a pool table are only ackward if the cueball is up against a cusion. You learn how to play position using center ball and speed control, your shots will start going into the heart of the pocket. Its great. In all it will make you a far more consistant player. Furthermore if you have any problems with your stroke you will certainly notice it playing snooker because you will miss a lot of shots because of it. There is nothing more satisfying than running a century in snooker.

I don't know how often you practice but I would certainly allocate close to half your practice time to snooker.

I think playing all games can help. 3C and snooker included.

For snooker, I think that you will quickly learn what type of stance and stroke are necessary for required accuracy of shotmaking and what type of stances and strokes aren't so snooker friendly.

For 3C, I think you'll discover what type of angles and paths the cueball and object ball can take.

I also highly recommend a healthy dose of bank pool.

There is a big problem with switching from 3C to pocket billiards though. As you get more and more used to a table with no pockets you'll find that you are gonna scratch a lil more on a 9footer. Also, if the 3C table you're playing on is heated (the two in the hall i play at are), then the cue ball is going to react much differently then it will on a 9 footer

And to your original question, yes, snooker should help. It'll feel like playing on a bar table when you switch from a 12ft to a 9ft. The pockets will look huge to ya, and in the long run, it should help with your precision.

running 14 object balls in straight pool as the first thing I did in my second season of my straight pool league. The match just started and i made my opponent break, then it was open season. Now if I can just figure out the break ball.

exactly what i was going to say. 3-cushion is by far the best game to help with ball position. Play both and you'll be bettering your shot making and cue ball positioning... you'll be deadly if you get good at both these games.

Snooker Table Practice

When practicing pool by playing snooker, do you use your normal pool cue or a snooker cue?

If you use a snooker cue does that take long to get used to?

the best way to learn how to play good is to play tough competition on a consistant basis. my brother and i got our ass kicked constantly over and over again. well we both ended up being nat'l champions so we must have had our buts kicked enough to win.

Use a Snooker cue. The larger tip on the smaller ball tends to accent all of your cueing flaws. I always roll my eyes when I see pool players using pool cues on a snooker table.
