Would you spend 10 bucks

I think they understand that I want to play and don't want to pay $10 to enter the building.
I think what they don't understand, is why I don't want to watch.
I liked your idea, but actually had not seen it when I posted. My point is $10 is nothing to help support a place you like to frequent. The big picture is supporting the establishment. Pool Rooms will not make it on table time...rent, utilities, CAM, insurance, cable, internet, phones, cleaning maintence, table maintence, payroll, payroll taxes, local business licence and local property taxes, and all this without touching beverage/food operations. Surely i am missing something,(profit-doubtful?). If someone can't spend $10 to support their room, the room won't miss them as there is not much profit in this customer.

Kinda the same as me wanting to practice alone and not be bothered - if I have 2 hrs, I wanna hit balls for 2hrs, not watch somebody else half the time.
I love to watch (when I'm not playing) as much as I love playing, but I can see your point completely.

What you and others don't realize is, he does support the place, without regulars you have nothing, and to sit here and tell somebody they should support (pay) for something they don't want is absurd! Why don't all of you send the room $10 apiece? Come on, support pool, what's wrong with you nits?

That's a whole other misconception. People see someone banging balls on their own and automatically assume they would prefer to have someone to play with. Absolutely can't comprehend that they might not and then think you are stand-offish or have something against them personally if you dont.

Actually everywhere I go gets far more. My thoughts and comments were not about him, although an individual has sought the dominant theme in the thread. Go back to the original post which was a generalization about the $10 bucks. Please note some of the operating expenses I listed which would be hard to cover with table time. If I liked going to the place, I would have interest in supporting it. You are in error to ever presume what I know and what I do not.
Exactly, there is no chance Im going to complain to the owner if I dont want to see the fight, or in this case match. I dont care if it was some special league tournament that I could care less about. If it is a big deal worth charging for then either I pay and go play on open tables or stay home for the weekend but either way I dont get mad about it, I dont feel mistreated as a regular, and I dont complain. Like I said before, it's $10. Big deal.
That was my point, except I don't mind driving to another hall.
I want table time, not an exhibition in a crowded room.

One other thought. Profitability of a Vegas pool room has less to do with pool and alcohol than the video poker machines that line the bars. Very few other areas in the US legally have that situation. Does change the dynamic somewhat. Doesn't change this situation.

Would you complain? You seem like a dude who is hard to please, you dont want a crowded room, you dont want to pay, etc.
I bet you would be one of the complainers am I right?
I'd pay.....and then I'd try to get a seat within the cameras view and I'd start munching chalk like m&m's. People would be like Alex just went two ahead and chalk guy just ate a 4th cube of green masters

Honestly, I rarely complain. I wouldn't say hard to please, but I am picky, and I'll pay if it's something that interests me. I go to a pool hall to play pool. If there is a cover charge and I have to pay table time, I'll go somewhere else.
It's pretty simple:
1) Drive to pool hall
2) Walk through front door
*If there is a cover charge, I will turn around and leave. Then I drive to another hall*
3) Find table
*If all the tables are full, I don't mind waiting at the bar*
*If all the tables are full, because of an exhibition/tournament, I'll leave*
4) Play Pool
I don't see how that's difficult to understand.
If I walk in to a hall and the tables are full, I don't mind sitting at the bar or grabbing a bite to eat and coming back. If I walk through the front door and someone stops me, and tells me there is a cover charge for the band/exhibition. I'll go ride somewhere else.
There are things I can control and things I cannot.
i find it interesting that the pool hall owner & the pros involved are not posting herein. no marketing whatsoever. (aka: AZB customers are irrelevent)

the owner didn't do his due diligence. evident. and now, he has to cleanup the backlash. if there had been proper marketing by all involved, we wouldn't be having this conversation - so now he has to eat it. this, is part of what's wrong with "pool".
the best way to be heard, is to pull $20-$120/day of your business for an unspecified amount of time :wink: - and give it to their competitor - over principle. and apparently the owner was smart enough to figure this out.
having said this, KK9 & i discussed at length last night. so i have to revise my previous statement:
for $10, i'd drive 3 miles. for the sole reason(s) to lay eyes on the guy that Justin cold-cocked & laid-out, as well as to see Alex jump over a pool table for my $10 bet!
