Just don't understand why it's so hard for a good number of you to understand HE DOESN'T WANT TO WATCH, HE WANTS TO PLAY!!!!
Phil,
Remember this is a local pool room first. The headline match is a great draw for the internet and a few locals and visitors. Most people walking in the door are entering to play pool not watch Alex and Scott. The fact the great majority of players who can not name the top pro's might be aghast at being asked to pay to watch two people they never heard of. The ten dollars is really immaterial. We love one pocket. The average player might be bored out their mind. They've been brought up to make balls, not miss them intentionally. If they don't play chess, oh well. My suggestion to charge a modest fee at the door with "free" perks nearly equal to the door charge is a viable alternative.
Another point lost here is Good Timez is a new pool room. Less than a year old. There is no long time loyal player base. Perhaps a few players migrated over from Best Billiards. Most are regulars at the LV Cue Club, Mickey's or Pool Sharks. Unless my memory is really gone, GT is a non-smoking pool room. Only one in Vegas. A week from now, all might be forgotten. Perhaps not.

I think they understand that I want to play and don't want to pay $10 to enter the building.
I think what they don't understand, is why I don't want to watch.
I liked your idea, but actually had not seen it when I posted. My point is $10 is nothing to help support a place you like to frequent. The big picture is supporting the establishment. Pool Rooms will not make it on table time...rent, utilities, CAM, insurance, cable, internet, phones, cleaning maintence, table maintence, payroll, payroll taxes, local business licence and local property taxes, and all this without touching beverage/food operations. Surely i am missing something,(profit-doubtful?). If someone can't spend $10 to support their room, the room won't miss them as there is not much profit in this customer.
Phil
Kinda the same as me wanting to practice alone and not be bothered - if I have 2 hrs, I wanna hit balls for 2hrs, not watch somebody else half the time.
I love to watch (when I'm not playing) as much as I love playing, but I can see your point completely.
Jason <-----wouldn't wanna pay either if he wasn't watching.
Send $10 to every place you frequent then.
What you and others don't realize is, he does support the place, without regulars you have nothing, and to sit here and tell somebody they should support (pay) for something they don't want is absurd! Why don't all of you send the room $10 apiece? Come on, support pool, what's wrong with you nits?
That's what I thought.....
There are plenty of bars that charge a cover on certain nights of the week/certain events. Tons of bars around my area charge cover for fight nights. Just the way it is. No chance I would go complain to the owner that I'm not interested in the fight, so I shouldn't have to pay the cover.
Exactly, there is no chance Im going to complain to the owner if I dont want to see the fight, or in this case match. I dont care if it was some special league tournament that I could care less about. If it is a big deal worth charging for then either I pay and go play on open tables or stay home for the weekend but either way I dont get mad about it, I dont feel mistreated as a regular, and I dont complain. Like I said before, it's $10. Big deal.
Actually everywhere I go gets far more. My thoughts and comments were not about him, although an individual has sought the dominant theme in the thread. Go back to the original post which was a generalization about the $10 bucks. Please note some of the operating expenses I listed which would be hard to cover with table time. If I liked going to the place, I would have interest in supporting it. You are in error to ever presume what I know and what I do not.
That was my point, except I don't mind driving to another hall.
I want table time, not an exhibition in a crowded room.
Would you complain? You seem like a dude who is hard to please, you dont want a crowded room, you dont want to pay, etc.
I bet you would be one of the complainers am I right?
