In the mid to late 90's, the tour was all places paid. Entry was 500.00 and if you were out in 2, they still wrote you a check for 300.00... I wonder if it is still this way and please feel free to comment or confirm any old or new info pertaining to this payout format. Maybe this is one of the reasons that they have had a successfull tour for some time???

Thanks again...

Actually, it used to be that if you went 2-and-out, you got $350 back. They've changed. But yes, that's the way they've always done it.

This may be a goofy question, but why not have a $150 entry fee instead? Nevermind I think I figured it out, to be able to claim a bigger total purse, for advertising reasons?

You know what Tracy, I never got a good answer to that question. I'll email Kelly O and ask her that after this weekend's over. I do know that they were going to do away with the 2-and-out getting paid and making it so you had to win at least a match to cash so as to try and push out the money towards the top, but I guess that didn't happen.

Does Kelly O = Oyama?

IIRC, they changed the payouts when they expanded to the 64 player field.

So ...

If you have to win 1 match to get money back,
that means they are paying back 50% of the field?

I thought 25% of the field was customary, which
would be 2 matches won in a 64 player tournament.

In DE tournaments, 25% go 2-and-out, so they are paying 75% of the field.

Last place is only paid in the BCA Open. Otherwise you have to place 33rd-48th to get at least $550 back. That number varies depending on the amount of added money at that event. This last tournament in Peoria, IL, 33rd was $700. I personally think that just the top half should be paid. That way there would be more money towards the top. It would give everyone something more to work for. I know I would be motivated.

Yeah, and next year if there's only 32 players coming to the tournaments they can pay only 16, and that'll mean even more money?

Thank you everyone for your inputs here. I wonder how the men would feel about this payout format??? Maybe making some sort of living would be more feasable accross the board if payouts were all this way for all tournaments and/or tours. How nice... just win one match and get paid...I have always thought that just paying 1/4 of the field has always been a curse for pool players....just doesn't seem right that 100 players show up and only 25 make money???? Something definately not good about that happening??? I like at least 1/3 to 1/2 getting pait at the minimum... another thought of mine is so much of the purse going to 1st - 4th place...maybe I am wanting to be too giving???

Please post and all of your thoughts...

All I have to say is the women seem to have a respectable well organized pro tour and the men continue to struggle to do the same with their pro tour. The only pro tour in men's pool that seems to be organized and well run is the Asian 9ball tour which just happens to pay the entire 32 man field at all of it's events.
