Wrap Groove

spliced

Hi,

I have an old hoppe pro butt I am planning to have refinished. The leather wrap has been removed and it looks like the wrap groove is cut very deep, especially approaching the end of the wrap area on the forearm side where it looks to slant inward even more. I've been told this is a pretty common problem.

If I wanted to keep the cue wrapless, would it be possible to build this area back up with clear coat and have it look ok?

Thanks
Ian

Okay is the key word. It will look just barely Okay. Since most of those cues do not run in a straight line taper anyways, you might sand the cue down to wrap groove level and blend that angle back out. The cue is probably a little fat and could be improved by thinning a little anyways.

thanks for the response,

It is definitely super fat at the bottom end so that could be taken down just fine. It's just that area at the top of the wrap area that concerns me because I think the forearm area next to it is probably as small as it should get and I don't want it to get any thinner there.

Would the clear coat coverup be very noticable at the area between the forearm and wrap?

Just like glass, the thicker the car coat, the less transparent it is. Also that thick not sure how durable it will be . Sure you don't want another wrap on it.
