Just got a the mini lathe from joe porper. I am starting a cue repair service in my area. I was wondering if the leather wrap machine that atlas sells for about $400. is any good. I know that doing the leather wraps is almost an art. I lot of Q-repair guys I know, just do the irish lenon. Any advice??

I have the Unique Jig and it's well worth the money in my opinion. I do know a couple of people who do them without jigs and can do a really nice job. I guess it just depends on how long you want to take to perfect it.

Atlas resells the Unique Wrap Magic Fixture from http://www.uniqueinc.com/inc/sdetail/1117

You may want to call Unique or Jim Sickles directly at 317-563-2281.
I don't think you can go wrong with the Wrap Magic Fixture.

If you so a search for the wrap fixtures, you'll get a lot of information from the forums. Different people prefer the different fixtures, but I don't remember hearing anything completely negative about any of them.

Since you're looking at doing leather wraps, I'll mention that there are a few other sellers:
Brianna sells a kit, but has no fixture for securing the workpiece. He uses a DiAngelo in his video if I remember correctly.
Brianna's link is http://briannaproducts.com/leather.htm

In Brianna's leather wrap video he discusses putting the wrap on without a fixture.

I have a DiAngelo, but they're no longer manufactured.

Chris Hightower has a leather fixture that you can use if you own a Hightower lathe (in addition to your Porper). http://www.cuesmith.com/index.php?menu2=menu_accessories&page=leather

The fixture is not a necessity, but it really helps out. You would need some sort of kit- like Hightower's or Brianna's. If you don't have the fixture, you'll tie up your lathe while you're doing the wrap. Most people like being able to do the wrap without tying up their machinery.

Oh yeah- the instructional videos are very helpful.

Hope this helps and Good luck

i am partial to the hightower leather wrap package. i dont know if it will work with your lathe but you cut the leather while right in the lathe.
your lathe needs an index
