This weekend's Wall Street Journal has a piece in their Review section concerning U.S. government's fight against ever escalating timber theft across the world. $157 billion per year estimated timber poaching revenues for the risk takers. Apparently drug and ivory violations are being more widely eyeballed by regulatory bodies than timber poaching- appears to be easy money for the thieves.

Interesting, Cambodia, Brazil, and Peru, Madagascar, stand out as target countries for timber poachers. Ebony, Rosewood appear on the list of most poached woods. Guitars, wood cased watches, and furniture are areas where the poached wood is being put to use by certain makers. Gibson guitar was fined $300,000 for using poached Madagascar Rosewood in their higher end guitars.

No mention of high end cues in the article. For once, pool did not get a black eye!:):)
