I'm looking for a used slim 1/2 HP motor to run my lathe. It has an 1/8 Hp motor from a Taig lathe and it won't handle the larger headstock. Any brackets or ideas on how to mount the motor so it will slide with the headstock would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for any help. Ron
Posted in the machinery section also.

This is what I'm working with:

I'd highly recommend a DC mtr for this application. Todd & Penn State immediately come to mind.
The DC mtr will give you variable speed. No switching of the belt on the pulleys.
Mount it on a hinge at the rear of your hdstock and the mtr goes where the hdstock goes.
The wght of the mtr will provide the tension on the belt.

Thank you very much KJ. Another member sent me this link and it looks great. I was wondering about how to mount it so my headstock and motor slide together. Thank you, Ron

OK, let me reword this:
"Mount it on a hinge 'TO' the rear of your hdstock and the mtr goes where the hdstock goes."
