WTB new kind of LD shaft!!!? 314's ARE JUNK

I have been using Predator 314 shafts since 1998. That is all I have used since that time and I couldn't be swayed with anything else. I have tried every LD shaft available but always went back to Predator.

UNTIL.....Kenny Koo (Flyingsnail) made me a cue with a low deflection shaft. In my opinion, this shaft is the best LD shaft I have EVER used. I kid you not. It has no ferrule....which looks strange but the performance is unmatched by anything on the market. I won't touch anything else now, and that is saying something given for the last 14 years I couldn't use anything but Predator.

A low-deflecting shaft is low-deflecting because it deflects instead of the cue ball! There really is NO truly stiff low deflecting shaft! If it's a stiff shaft you want, get a purpleheart shaft with a short ferrule.

In the past week, I have bought a predator 314-2 for an olivier cue, and a mezz cue with a wd700 shaft. The mezz sure does feel better to me. The cueball doesn deflect that much with the mezz wd700, so it gets my vote.

Universal smartshaft! great LD shafts, i was really impressed when trying one out the other day. i usually play with an old pre-cat 314

ok everyone saying Mezz Hybrid II shafts.. I have been looking at their website and they have no picture or anything of how their "front end technology" works, and what the Hybrid Carbon Core is?! Sounds like a cue-tec and predator spliced together!?

Just play with one , you will be amazed .
I played with one recently and it's definitely the best LD shaft i played with .
I play with a Z2 shaft wich is great when your cueing well but bites you in the ass when your strugling .
I'm waiting for my new VARNEY with his own made LD-shaft and if this isn't what i want i definitely going to buy the MEZZ HYBRID PRO II .

I am looking for a stiff hitting Low Deflection shaft that isnt a 314 or OB1 or tigerX (Radial Pin). Does anybody know of a GOOD QUALITY LD shaft out there?

Ive had an OB1.. it was too flimsy.
TigerX wasnt stiff enough..
Love the 314's but im done with them!

just went through my third 314 in the past year and half due to warpage!! I DONT store them in or around Humidity, and im always going straight home from pool hall because i dont want them to sit in the car while im in the grocery store to have a chance at warping.. but it happens regardless. I am carrying around a 3x7 with 5 other shafts and they NEVER have warped while i went through 3 predators. I also do NOT break with them.
Sorry im venting out my frustrations..

IMHO ..you may look into a Birdseye Maple shaft, the one I have was made by Dale Teague in Phoenix, AZ. Not sure if he still makes them but you may want to check out www.teaguecue.com and take a look at the Eye Shaft.

Quite a few custom makers can do a solid maple LD shaft. It's just drilled 5-6 in, then filled with balsa type stuff . Or just get a WD 700.

The best hitting ld shaft that fits a radial pin is a Capone! It hits so much better than the mezz, tiger, predator its a joke. Try one and you will see

do yourself a favor, get a Mezz shaft. they are way better than predator IMO. predator is fine, but hollow hit and questionable wood quality.

i personally play with the HP2 , but hp1, alpha or wd700 are all good

Go for Mezz

A friend of mine is a local dealer of Mezz products and I have tried numerous Mezz shafts. I can say:

- they are much better shafts than 314-2, in terms of build quality (the wood used, etc)
- they are very stiff, and generate very good feedbacks
- they don't warp, we tested WD700, HP2 and HP alpha, both United and Wavy joint, and abused them by hard/soft breaking. They just don't warp. and please take into account that the humidity is quite high in Vietnam.

You cannot go wrong with Mezz if you are looking for a LD player.
