Long explanation incoming…so please bear with me. Hopefully my fellow cue lovers will appreciate it.
One of my younger league players has decided that it is time for a cue upgrade. I let him borrow a few of my Blue Books and he has been bitten by the cue bug. That being said, he has asked me to look for a cue for him within the $500 to $800 price range (I have persuaded him to go a bit higher depending on cue.) In that range, I would like to find a nice, great playing older cue (custom or high end production) that has either held or has the possibility of increasing somewhat in value. What I would like to find would be along these lines:
Older Joss (Gold or White letter)
Schön (preferably mitered points but will look at newer Schön’s)
C or D Series McDermott’s (would need to be at the very high end)
Lower end models of custom cues (Phillipi, Black, Scruggs etc.) – I am not looking to rob anyone on these types of cues….I am very realistic on the remoteness of the possibility. Points with veneers and little to no inlay work is absolutely fine.
Any cue that I would look at for him should be in good shape (no warping in the butt of the cue, very very little to no roll out in the shafts, good finish and wrap, etc.) I would prefer two shafts but would settle on one if the cue is right.
What would personally sweeten the pot for me would be the inclusion of a George (or Brunswick by George,) 2x4 or 3x6 case. I have struck a deal with the aforementioned player to trade cases with him should a George be included.
Please feel free to post to the message or send me an e-mail at bumlak@charter.net or eric.sternberg@convergys.com.
Thanks AZ’ers,
Eric
