WTB Round Pole Sander

A VFD with a phase converter built in can be had for under $200-500 depending on the HP of the motors.
For shipping, I'd suggest doing a Google search for partial load trucking companies. See if someone can load it up; you'll want a liftgate unless you have a forklift on site.

Can that be changed to single phase?

The single phase, as was already pointed out, can be made into three phase.

There is no reason to be afraid of three phase machines at all.

When you begin to reach HP's over 3 is when vfd's get more expensive and unviable. You could then go to a rotary phase converter.

It is much less work than you seem to think....typically cheaper and less hassle than hunting down a suitable single phase motor..

money

That's certainly not expensive. I was expecting around 5 - 6000.00 as Sherm paid about that price 10 years ago when the dollar was worth more.

I think I paid a little under 5K for mine but that was with the shipping from Seattle and a bunch of sanding belts. It wasn't cheap, but in my mind it was well worth the price.

Critz dowel sander

My friend the well known cuemaker that owns a Critz Tapered dowel sander , looked at the import and questioned all the controls. Stating the Critz was very simple to use and may be the smarter choice?

FYI ??
