I have never cared for the "Ultimate Tip Tool", because it doesn't actually trim the edges...
the wedge system will crush in the sides of the tip (removing the mushrooming)...but, it's actually re-fluffing the tip back up taller...and it to me alters the way that my tip played from when it was packed down...making it a bit softer hitting until it packs back down again...and re-mushrooms...
That's on a single layer tip...Triangle...
Otherwise, I'm sure it's a great tool for it's other applications.
I'd look into more of a tool that will remove the mushrooming by cutting, trimming, or sanding it off...but be careful not to damage the ferrule...A lathe is best!
Anyhow, just my 2 cents...I've been thinking about picking up the
"Last 4 Ever" tip tool...but I've got a lathe, and do local repairs, so, I'm actually good on all my stuff...
Pardon my 2 cents, if it conflicts with any other opinion.
my understanding is that the INSIDE of the forks is for burnashing, but the outside of the forks has sand paper on it to run the length of the cue and tip to remove the excess tip material. It is supposed to be built in such a way that the paper will not contact your shaft or fuerrel.
