And then you might not, but since I just saw a thread on cues for playing on a bar box, I thought I would share some thoughts I have been having on playing on bar boxes and see if anyone else has had similar experiences.
1. Green logo cue balls are crappy in my opinion. I play on different size tables (7,8, & 9's), with different types of cloth, and different kinds of cue balls, so I have different cue balls to practice with (Aramith red logo, Aramith green logo, red circle, & measles). It helps a little to practice with what I am going to have to play with at different pool rooms. I have noticed when practicing that some shots that I have trouble with pocketing balls when using a green logo bar box cue ball are no problem with say the red circle or red logo Aramith cue ball.
2. A pool room that I usually play at a couple of times a week changed their cushions and cloth to make their Valley bar boxes play a lot faster, really fast, Simonis 760 fast, but really faster than that. So if you add in the Aramith green logo bar box cue ball, it can be difficult to adjust to after playing on Diamond bar boxes with 860 Simonis and red circle cue balls. I do try to play with a half oz. lighter cue on these super fast bar boxes, and it helps a little, so I thought that maybe that was what the guy was asking about playing with a different cue on bar boxes.
3. About half way through a weekly tournament that I play in I have noticed that I start having problems pocketing long difficult shots on these fast bar boxes ( I know there are no long shots on a bar box..ha..ha..but you know what I mean ), so I scuff my tip and the problem seems to go away ( I play with soft and medium Ultraskins ).
If anybody would like to comment, please feel free to do so. I have a new LD shaft coming this week ( Jacoby Hybrid Edge ) with a Kamui black soft tip on it to try, so that might help or at least be interesting to compare to my other shafts.
