You tube is robbing pool players

Ive been to a handful of events that I've recorded matches I was watching. However. I also have never posted any of those videos and rarely share photos of players I take at the events. Now with everyone and their kids carrying smartphones it's almost like having footage from sixty angles.
I do wish the players would be compensated. But I don't know how you are going to keep track of it all.

Why would they? It's strange thinking that your appearance somehow magically transmits into you getting money for that, just because somebody happens to film that.

One thing everybody needs to understand - we live in a world of surplus. Quit thinking that you hitting some balls somehow constitues a magical rare moment in history.
It is not, and it should not, by any means. Did Mozart get any money for some notes he was playing on a random piano? No.

If you want to get money - invest in yourself.
Setup a camera (+ man), make your own channel, provide high quality content, not just matches, show your gear, show playing tips, create an audience, show yourself as a knowledgable, credible human being.
This will take time to take off, of course, and nobody "in the pool game" does have time for that, apparently.

Also some might need to accept the cold hard truth: other people invest years (and money) to study or in (college, ...) education to hold "normal, boring" jobs doing regular but important work (ie garbage men, plumbers, programmers, surgeons, mechanics, even service jobs) with regular pay.

Why do you expect that you get rich by just hitting balls which does not solve a real world problem?
It's an amusement, and is valued accordingly.

I'd rather pay my garbage man than paying for watching pool player. Lessons are a very different story.

Cheers,
M

Can I just point out one thing. This is the live stream room, this thread should have been posted in the main forum under the who gives a s..t section. Free videos on you tube help pool a lot more than they hurt pool.

yup ^^^^^^^

If the videos weren't up on youtube I wouldn't be able to watch and learn. In turn I wouldn't care nor would support the many PPV streams I buy every year. Youtube is not a burden to pool, it's a catalyst that keeps people someone interested
