Working the event covered my hotel and gas plus about minimum wage per hour if I looked at it that way LOL..

I ate everyday more or less at the small concession counter out front... They had burgers, brats, wings and bbq all for around 5bucks.. So $15 bucks a day on food plus you can't not have a graters milk shake daily when it's in your face took it to $21.. 2 mtn dews and a 5 hour energy ran $11 a day in the gift shop... so now we are at $32.. Cigarettes $10.50 a day so $42.50.... Times 11.... bout $450 out of pocket... I hit the slots the first night I ran out of smokes... Took a $20 and max bet it in a dollar machine and hit it for $150... Was the only way I was gonna buy smokes for $10.50.. Had to be with their money =)

Was too busy all week and never made it back to the boat... That saved me 600-1000 which is my usual donation while there.... Hell it saved me another 100 or 3 in adult beverages LOL

Ended up a whopping sawbuck from sidebets... Kicker was I missed out on 2 IT jobs being gone for that long so that kicks in about $1800 in lost revenue...

All and all I didn't lose anything or make anything for my 11 days there but where else do you want to be besides DCC the last week of January =)

The Earl and Niels match almost made up for all the grief the hotel's GM put us thru by putting free wifi on top of us on the pipe that was supposedly just for our stream.... Something about nothing in the Diamond contract said we had to have internet... frickin Douchebags.....

I'd say that most of this is a 'business loss/write off (edit.."write against)' for John that most will not be able to take... so you can add back about 38-50% back to the real dollars to the "entertainment/travel" portion of the trip he mentions above. So business promotion... ie booth rental, part of food/ gas / hotel/ event entry/ and even the educational material is business expenses (loss) for John. As John probably is not a profession gambler as the main source of his income the gaming loss is like anyone else's. Apples to Apples here would be more appropriate imo.

If you did what John did for a couple of rounds of 1 hole (minus 1K for booth rental) so say $3500 then add back for the tax loss (38-50% depending on your State/Fed bracket etc) I'd say that week of fun would be more like $4500-$5000 after tax retail (....Apples to Apples). 2 and out (in 1 hole) would have to be VERY entertaining for most to consider a fun working vacation.
